Helmet-Cam Cyclist Menace to HGV

eagerbeaver:
Been driving/riding 25 years. Clean license.

I know the reason why the cyclist was on the road instead of the cycle lane.

Because he is a prick.

Funny this - because a while back a similar thread rumbled on about cyclists using dedicated lanes provided for them and I said that in my opinion they were being selfish for not doing so - boy did I get some flak on here for that.

So look out, they’ll be along in a little while saying that the cycleways are rubbish, infested by midwives with wicker baskets on their bikes and that it’s the cyclists right to ride wherever they please.

So, out comes me lawn chair and a couple of cold ones and I’m gonna sit back and watch the show

I don’t know how the driver kept a straight face especially after being called a scrawny little man by a bell end in Lycra who was making sure he kept a safe distance away when he was gobbing off.
That said the driving was pretty poor and judging by the state of the lorry that driver obviously has a penchant for getting too close to things be it cyclists or brick walls/other vehicles.
The head phones/ear phones didnt make much of a case for the drivers ability to concentrate either.

The so called proffessional driver should have waited behind the bike. He was never going to make it without cutting the bike up. An individuals choice of transport does not make them “fair game”.

The overtake was far too close to the cyclist anyway, especially when there is more than one lane so the driver could have given the cyclist plenty of room.
But since the traffic was stopping for the lights ahead is what made it a really ■■■■ poor attempt at driving. I reckon the driver wasn’t actually paying attention to what was going on in front of him.

Driver was too close for a safe pass. Poor judgement.
You can clearly see the cyclist can keep up with the traffic so why should he use the cycle lane?
I’ve had more accidents and near misses using cycle lanes then I have on the roads with other traffic. Cycle lanes tend to be inhabited by bumbling daydreamers and pedestrians. It makes me wonder if some here are fit to hold a licence with the attitudes displayed.

That was ■■■■ poor on behalf the driver. Fair play to cyclist for kicking down and telling him so!

Both nobs in my opinion. But I do think it’s becoming a dangerous trend, all this buy a camera and stick it on YouTube ■■■■. It seems like a bunch of talentless pricks are trying to grab their 15 minutes of fame. We could all go out with a camera and get about 5-10 clips a day, but some of us have a life I guess :unamused:

Colin_scottish:
Cyclist is a ■■■■.

+1, cyclist also has bad attitude yet he’s the most vulnerable road user.

Remonstrating with someone who nearly killed you might display a bad attitude, but it’s understandable. Blanking someone you nearly killed however, is shocking behaviour.

Cyclist trying to instigate a road rage incident, driver did well not to react. Yes poor driving as he was close… but “nearly killed me” give it a rest :unamused:

The opening scene where he is selfie himself riding along a s/c road at a good speed tells me all I need to know about this walloper.

I’m not defending the cyclist but please don’t try and defend the driver as this is a forum for professionals and you just make yourself look very very silly

Yup, agree with all of that. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

as much as I cant stand these helmet wearing pricks, the truck did himself no favours.

its about time cyclists were fined for not using cycle paths that cost thousands to build and maintain, because they may have to stop occasionally.

Its funny to see how members of the forum here are blaming the truck driver.
simple case really this one. Biker not in cycle lane. the lane throughout the video is clear. Stupid of him to ride on the road. He’s putting his own life at risk.

Although the truck did squeeze him towards the curb, why wasn’t he in the cycle lane?

My guess is because he’s got a helmet camera and goes hunting for footage by putting himself in situations. Notice how he goes round the right side of the truck blocking a silver car behind him as he rides in the middle of the lane.

Looking at the rest of his videos, he doesn’t exactly help himself. And his intro video of him biking with one arm stretched out to video himself, looking behind him. Not clever.

I agree

Stupid of him to ride on the road. He’s putting his own life at risk

No, just no

He hasn’t done anything to put himself in harms way, right up until he tries to confront the driver. But that is his choice.

It was just poor judgment on behalf of the driver, not a hanging offence, not worth losing his job over, but probably worth word from a calm TM.

On a side note I would say that you have to be ■■■■■■■ brain dead to try anything with a cyclist, that has got a helmet cam on. It’s not like you can’t see them! And if you slip up like this chap has, you are asking for trouble.

Some are overgrown with bushes ie A5 at Hinckley from M69 to industrial estate . No choice but to use road!

I use my bike at weekends or days off, try to keep to cycle paths, but some near me have cars parked in them lol

In my humble opinion the 3663 driver made a very poor manouvre. ■■■■ poor forward planning and he cocked up totally if attempting to knock the cyclist off.

If he wasnt deliberately trying to scare then cyclist the oh dear, lets face it though your average 3663 driver has no idea of the vehicles length anyway and can be seen regularly cutting in to early whilst overtaking.

Course the dashcam cyclist is a total ■■■■ as well (arent they all), in creating a facetube worthy moment. The main crumb of comfort I get is being safe in the knowledge that the last thing these dashcam drama queens will film is their own death or a funny misshap at least…

Good job this didnt happen in London or the lycra loonies would be campaigning for all four legged animals to be fitted with air bags, wide angle mirrors and banned from rush-hour.
Think Bambi was fine after this just a bit winded. Not sure about the cyclist but hope his injuries werent to minor.

then they should be reported and made for the purpose intended, the cars should be towed too.

round mine there are cycle paths but its rare to see any cyclists using them, I have no issues with bikes on the roads when they is no alternative but on the odd occasion I do get the bike out I will use the paths rather than a road.
