I know I could of done the class 2 then class 1 but the way the situation was at the time things happen and were the job was on offer as well with the training paid to. I did not have any grand father rights I passed my driving test in 1999.
I found it hard to get a job so I got help with funding for the 3 theory tests, LGV C1 7.5t, LGV C1+E 7.5t and driver CPC card and digital card. So this got me of to a good start with a job traffic management it was only zero hours but got me started. Also gained other things as well to do with street works etc.
I never thought about driving bigger trucks. But then seen other opportunities elsewhere while with work you meet people and better money also. So 6 months later the savings I got. I paid my self this time and I went for my HGV class 2 C 32t lorry license.
I’m so glad I have done this it gives me a better future now with work. The class 1 ce maybe in the future but not needed at the moment with the things I want to drive and use are mainly class 2 with my cards and tickets I have etc.
I have a few offers coming up but decided to wait until after xmas and the new year been as better things where coming up for me. Also been busy with IT work recently so kept me busy to. I’m looking to get in to road works civil engineering and street lighting. But for now I will be either driving road sweeper, bin lorry, drainage jet vac, skip truck and tippers. So this month I be driving one or a few of these shortly.
I did all my training with Chevron Training based in Flint North Wales. All the training was A1 and staff where nice and professional. The vehicles are all well maintained and nice to learn to drive in.
2014 Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) 13/03/14
2014 LGV class 3, C1 7.5t truck with 750kg trailer license 19/03/14
2014 LGV class 3 C1+E 7.5t truck with 4.5t trailer license 14/05/14
2014 HGV class 2 C 32t lorry license 21/11/14
Old Rules
HGV Class 3 = Vehicle over 7.5t gross with only 2 axles (passing automatically gave you drawbar entitlement)
HGV Class 2 = Vehicle over 7.5t gross with more than 2 axles (passing automatically gave you drawbar entitlement)
HGV Class 1 = Vehicle over 7.5t gross towing a semi trailer where the 5th wheel was capable of carrying a minimum of 20% of the overall trailer weight (in English an artic)
Candidates could obtain a provisional entitlement and go straight for the HGV1.
New Rules
LGV Cat ‘C’ = Any vehicle over 7.5t gross (regardless of axles) not towing a trailer (it is permitted to tow a trailer not exceeding 750Kg Gross weight)
LGV Cat ‘CE’ (not C+E) = Any vehicle over 7.5t gross towing a trailer exceeding 750Kg gross weight. This can be either a Prime mover and trailer (known as wagon and drag or drawbar) or an articulated vehicle as described above
Candidates must obtain a full Cat ‘C’ before proceeding to Cat ‘CE’
PS. If you passed either HGV 3 or 2 under the old rules, when it changed you were automatically given a Cat ‘CE’ licence, but with a Code 102 restriction. This code limited the driver to drawbar trailers only. To remove this code 102 it is necessary to pass a Cat ‘CE’ test using either a drawbar vehicle (which seems odd as you already hold a full entitlement) or an articulated vehicle.
I have no more straight forward way to explain the above.

I had no grandfather rights so I’m on the new rules.
That is exactly what I am doing at the moment; going for my C1 first, gain some experience and then might go to bigger lorries.
I don’t know anyone in the industry so I am taking it easy.
