Hi all, just a quick hello really, been lurking around the forum for a while, finally decided to take the plunge and fulfil my childhood ambition of becoming a HGV driver. I’m a caprenter and locksmith by trade in a pretty safe job, it’s just time for a change and a challenge.
I’ve always loved driving and always wanted to be a trucker, I just ended up in a decent job after I left school and stayed here ever since (11 years this year) I’m a scooterist (let the flogging begin) I have 2 old scooters, a 1960 lambretta and a 1976 Vespa, I’ve driven 3.5t vans all my working life, actually drove a van after passing my test before even owning a car! I’ve done the ROSPA advanced driver training also which was very worth while!
I’m just waiting for my licence to come back with my provisional entitlements on it then I’m going to start learning. I’ve been taking mock tests (theory and HPT - did these a couple of yrs ago when passing my bike test so all pretty familiar) and so far so good!
My aim - without sounding like I want to run before I can walk - is to get into heavy haulage and or international tramping so any advice in those areas would be great
