Height stick

A lad in our place was delivering a reach truck to peel ports at Moore on the ship canal, he came to the low Bridge so he took the reach truck off and drove it hundreds of yards along a country lane then through security and right around their one way system only to be told the mast was to high and it wouldn’t fit through the doors so he had to drive it all the way back at about 4 miles an hour

Rather than carry extra kit wouldn’t it be easier to simply look in your trucker atlas at bridges in your area then just have a drive around until you find a bridge you can’t quite get under then look up at the bridge and hey presto there’s your trailer height (after you’ve knocked a couple of inches off) on a sign in both feet and metres for your convenience

   :unamused:

Hi all anyone know the cheapest place to buy a 5m height stick from. Left mine on me deck, fell off then ran over it DOH lol. Thanks in advance for advice. Cheapest I’ve found is £78 on eBay.

For that price, you’d be as well buying one of those bosch laser measure thingys that I seen advertised on tv the other day.

how about using a surveyor’s staff  you can pick them up cheap ebay.co.uk/itm/Surveyors-or- … 35ea453db5

I’ve got the stiffest 7m tape I could find on the market. Carrying lumps of timber in my driver bag sounds like a PITA to me but then I’m agency :smiling_imp:

I’ve become a lazy git anyway, nowadays I only do single and decker vans with the heights marked on them anyway

Get a Harris extending decorators pole from b&q, stick a right angle bracket on it and use that. Also helps with getting straps through gaps, tapping on the roofs of BMWs in lane 3…

get whoever that services your trailers to paint a mark 6 foot from the top of your trailers and when you couple up to one measure down from the mark and add the two figures together and you’ve got your height.
