Height problem in germany

Not being funny but if I remember rightly I don’t even think he’d get very far out of the port …so forget about German fines or Germany altogether

Darren, instead of asking for a route twice, try reading what the experienced euro drivers are telling you, it is totally illegal and will be very expensive. If your a one man band then hire a lower trailer, if you work for a company then go and work for one that actually knows the laws.If you are daft enough to risk it I hope you have a good credit card limit.

Hi Darren, as you’re going Brno is this to do with Motorsport? Won’t make any difference you’ll still be to high to do it legally or safely. But I might be able to help with finding a replacement trailer or alternative.

Pm if you don’t want to give to much info here.

Another good reason to avoid Jabbeke then, apart from the ■■■■■■ and the illegals

I take it the OP was already in, or outside the dock gates in Dunkerke when he posted this?
Seem’s awfully quiet…

It’s doable  but …

If it is an abnormal load or specialised trailer you would need a convoi exceptionel permit, signage and beacons etc and above all a decent German ■■■■■■ (which would be a condition of the permit anyways)

Ship from Immingham to Cuxhaven. The autobahn bridges in the north are mostly 4.5m ish, I’ve whizzed under them regularly enough flat out at 4.45 :open_mouth:    The further south you get the lower the bridges and they are not marked until the bridge generally which may be 20kms past the last exit

Make sure you do your Maut online as the boat gets in at night and nowhere in town is open to get it
Your permit may restrict you to night time only running :unamused:

As Inselaffe has pointed out, if you think you are gonna just “wing it” think again. You’re unlikely to make it in one piece and/or without a ■■■■ good wallet ■■■■■■.

PM JJ72 he’s up that way more than we are so would have much more detailed info

Round about 2008 time the company me and my dad worked at got a good deal on a new Euroliner. The deal didn’t look so good when my dad got stopped at Weil-am-Rhein by Swiss customs as he set off the height sensor and it turned out to be something like 4.15m high. They would not let him in to Switzerland and they informed the Germans about the issue, who prompty banned him from turning around and re-entering Germany.
In the end another truck came back to the border after tipping in Basel and transhipped the load and then after many hours of negotiating and other antics they finally allowed him to enter Germany so long as he proceeded directly to the French border at Ottmarsheim about 20 or so km up the road with a firm promise of severe consequences if they ever found that trailer on German roads again at that height.
The trailer had been sold as a 4m high one and marked up as such. The trailer was later lowered to conform but it goes to show that the Germans certainly do care, if made aware.

You don’t need my two pennneth worth as I’ve never been over with a truck but you are being point blank told that the height limit is 4 metres in Germany by a lot of very experienced geezers.

You’d be off your ■■■■ not too listen to them. The Jerry’s don’t like it if you get uppity I’m sure.

10 years ago I got fined 700 euro for being 4.03m high.

Now Its 3000 euro for being 4.04m high. :open_mouth:

I’m happy I don’t drive to Germany anymore…

Things may have changed as I havent shipped in to Cuxhaven since 2009 before I moved out to Canada but it used to be a regular for me due to carrying hazarous waste with A plates and route permits and the like that we couldn’t get for France, Belgium or Holland so had to ship to Cuxhaven.

The Jet garage on Papenstrasse used to be open 24/7 and the Maut machine was located outside the building on the wall, a bit like a bank atm. To get to that garage you turned left out of the dock gate and carried on until the big round about at the start of the Autobahn and then took the first right, in to the town of Cuxhaven and just followed that along until a railway crossing and the garage is on the left directly after said crossing. I always used to fuel up there and get my maut as soon as the weekend driving ban came to an end or shortly after, usually about midnight or 1am etc. That could all have changed though, I’m sure much has in the past four years.

That was shut for refurb first time I went and the machine at the ARAL is inside. Despite being 24 hours they won’t let you in to use it out of hours, even my German ■■■■■■ could not persuade the miserable heffer to let us in     As you know there’s nothing going south then on that desolate autobahn :unamused:

Have just done it online ever since as it’s much easier, baring in mind I know my exact timing and routes well in advance and usually come home empty

I know a few of our lads got caught because they couldn’t be bothered going in to Cuxhaven and instead got it at the first services heading south, a destination they never made due to getting apprehended first! lol. Now it seems there is no choice if you arrive at unsocial hours.

Doing it on line would be much easier. We always took our loads to Bitterfeld in the former East Germany so that bit was simple but reloads where always different and were a complete pain in the arse, especially as we sometimes got sent right over to the Ruhr to load groupage with several collections and as you know, if you’re only booking short journey’s the ticket soon expires and you have to book another one, once you’ve found somewhere that sells it, often small car garages with absolutely no access for trucks. Its a crazy system when you don’t have a proper Maut box in the truck.

The police calculated how many km’s I’d driven In Germany with an overheight trailer (checking CMR’s for loading & unloading addresses) & the fine worked out to 700 euro’s, which the boss paid…

He wouldn’t get past Gent with that trailer. A fridge just about gets under the bridges. Just a thought but how high are the railway power line’s?..■■■■■■■ hate going under them!

Standard height for european railway is 5.6 metres, but can be lower in some places.

Anyone know what happened in the end?

He must have tried it and either got stuck or raped by the cops or both.

Darren where in Germany are you going pls
