Good afternoon all, we are planning to run a 4.2 rigid down to Valencia this summer, I am wondering what possible problems could be encountered as I understand Spain sets its limit for international journeys to 4m.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Regards KP
I can’t think of any…Was near there earlier this week. Plenty of tall wagons about. I’ll probably be proved wrong though!
If your entering Spain at Irun be prepared to be stopped by a copper in a stupid red hat who’ll want to empty your wallet, generally you shouldn’t have any problems around the country with a 4.2.
As I remember there used to be a railway bridge that was marked 4.2 as you entered Coslada from the Zaragosa motorway & TDG used to run plenty of 4.2+ high trailers. So if your going in through La Jonqera you shouldn’t have a problem, just try to avoid North East Spain & those pesky ‘Red Caps’!!!
Ross.
Loads of roadworks from La Jonquera for about 25k or more. Camera boys out in force on Wednesday.
Keep it at 80kmh strictly!
in your question you answer it as well,

the limit is 4m on international but not for national work, we load in the isover factory in guadalajara and run at least 4.2 down the motorways with no problems.
there are very few old railway bridges in spain a) there aren’t many old railways and b) franco blew up most old bridges during the war.
all bridges have height markers on but they are very small but i can’t see you having a problem, i assume you are getting the ferry into the north of spain as you haven’t asked about 4.2m in france

Thanks for info, I’ve measured the truck and fortunately it’s just under 4.1, has probably been marked up with safety margin.
I’ll be running through France from Calais, according to IRU info this shouldn’t be a problem. I was looking at going via Rouen, down west side to Bordeaux then Irun, Pamplona,Teruel etc. Perhaps I should amend this to Clermont Ferand and La Jonquera, although more expensive could be cheaper crossing into Spain.

your original route is the best and cheapest via rouen, tours, poitiers, angouleme, bordeaux, irun, sunbilla, pamplona, teruel then motorway all the way to valencia

one tries to do ones best every now and again vas
Thank you all for your helpful info, when are trucks were built I pointed out that the trucks should be no more than 4m high due to european journeys, the response was that the trucks would never travel to Europe
Typical, when those involved don’t understand the importance of these things, especially when each truck costs around 3/4 million quid each.

'kin 'ell
is that a typo or did you really mean 750,000? what are they solid gold? pics now required of such valuable trucks

Most definately, so we know the ones to ‘hi-jack’ when we see them;)
Ross.
The value of the truck is in the design and engineering, this is one of four new General Purpose trucks. Hopefully the attachment will appear.

You have to post your assignments now, anything motorsport related please
Will do Wheelnut, unfortunately we don’t cover motorsport with Radio Outside Broadcast trucks, they tend to be done with just commentator and producer.
TV put alot of effort in at Silverstone and send a truck to cover Euro GPs and Moto GP, although the BBC sold their TV OB operation 3 years ago to a company called SIS communications, largely due to the very competitive market, it was the end of an era.
The job to Valencia is for Radio One in Ibiza, broadcasting for 14 hours from one of the clubs.
i can post other pics from shows we cover if people are interested. We work across the networks from Any Questions to Radio One Big Weekend and Glastonbury, Golf and Royal Weddings

Even if it is Ibiza, you may get a one to one with Vale
