Rikki-UK:
If I sound bitter. I am, Econofreight and the lads who were there- were the top of the tree , as far as I am concerned was the pinnacle of my career, I worked with legends in the heavy haulage industry. I worked on and took loads that even now scare me, and we did it right. We were not cheap, and we didn’t cut corners, if you wanted the job done right you paid the price. It is telling after all these years after Econofreight was killed by Brambles most of the lads are still in touch- because we were a team and more we were friends- working at Econofreight was more than a job- we did stuff that no-one else could and you can only do that if you have trust and faith in the guy next to you- and we had the best- if it wasn’t for Brambles I would still be there today- it was my job for life

That’s part of the irony isn’t it, a investment company that does the opposite… I’ve been lucky enough to work for firms that were either still family owned or small enough to not be of interest of said dodgy investment cowboys… Seen the results over the years, the suits come in, drain every cashflow there is, stuff there own pockets and then when things come to an end, they hop on to the next victim… How much proper transport firms have disappeared into oblivion by those “parasites”…
I can understand the bitterness Rikki, Econofreight, Sunter’s and Wynn’s before that, were companies I looked up to, as did others, absolute pity it’s all gone now, what’s left are the memories and the pictures…

As for TDG (Transport Demolition Group), they’ve done more damage then good have they? Just about every company they were involved with has vanished or so it seems…

Konig was a Rotterdam freight-forwarder and quite a few Dutch operators ran their lorries in Konig livery in the '70s. Robert

Dean, the boy has been working hard, night and day it seems. Don’t worry, he’ll turn up again.

Quite right Patrick the Western Star is quite a popular truck and competitor to KW and Mack here in West Aus,tri drive is also quite common these days especially in the mining sector with side tippers.I will see if I can source some pics of them pulling quads.

Cheers Dig

The earlier post of pv83 calling the TDG , The Transport Demolition Group may have been a suitable description after the “Old Guard” retired but until that happened the TDG were a well run, if disparate, collection of Companies. I have met Sir James Duncan on a number of occasions both when he was the Supremo at TDG and latterly when he was Chairman of Boalloy and he was, without doubt, one of the sharpest men I have met. After his day at TDG "The suits " took over and the Group slid down hill from then on ! I’m sure Tom Riding could elaborate from the stand point of being in possession of “inside info” But to put things is perspective, TDG was a free enterprise profit based and motivated Company( R.O.C.) as compared to BRS who couldn’t care less as the good 'ole British Tax Payer would cover their deficits ! Cheers Bewick.
