What about spray supression

Can’t be arsed to watch the video but would the tare weight of that outfit really be 45,000 kg ?

The copper reminds me of Jimmy Edwards, in the film “The Plank”

I can’t speak with any authority, I’ve never seen a lowloader like that, but I’d have thought 30 tonne would have pulled it up.

They were very common in Blighty years ago, solid tyres and all, I doubt there were that many laws about axle spread and bridge weights that were observed anyway.

I’m sure i saw a low loader like that when i was a boy in Rush Green Motors

Sounds about right, with my DAF 6x4 coupled to a 5 axle step frame, I was already putting 30t on the scale. Did a few trips with a DAF 8x4 coupled to 4 axle lowloader, that was not far from the 40t mark if I remember correctly.

Maybe Mike Ponsonby can gives us the correct answer, he runs a few similar units.

The lass in the video used to work for Hallett & Silbermann if I remember correctly, quite like the tone she’s using to explain things, accurate and without drama.

Dufour from Tournai assisted with the cranes, P. Adams from Luxemburg loaded the unit.

I have consulted with Mr. P and he confirms that the combination would be about 45 tons ULW. Dennis.

Thanks for doing that Dennis. I’m surprised it’s that heavy, there must be some weight in that dolly setup.

I would think the retractable lifting mechanism for the dolly plus the steering mechanisms on all those rear axles would add weight.

That four-in-line lowloader trailer looks quite heavy unladen. Perhaps it’s just the metalwork round the swan-neck that give that impression…

Nice old AEC though!
