"Heavy Haulage through the years"

Mates lets not ruin a great thread on heavy haulage, take it to PMs please and let this thread thrive on heavy haulage as intended… thank you

I feel i have to comment , as a small haulier who dont put much on here , we had a mike ponsonby low loader come in our yard to pick a 8 wheel scania tipper for export , and all i can say is the lorry was immaculate but more importantly the driver was professional and nothing was too much trouble , but i dont think mr ponsonby needs the likes of me to blow smoke up him , as he already has a fantastic reputation in the industry , you can be good at what you do with 1 lorry or 15 , its good to be different , the world be a boring place if we were all the same ,

Always thought Sunters had a great colour scheme and operated some cracking trucks over the years.

Plus 1, there’s a war going on in Ukraine & no need for one on here.

That I believe is an MG cylinder for a paper making machine and it was probably shipped over from the UK from maybe Bertrams from Edinburgh or possibly Walmsley’s of Bury both firms being the main manufacturers of paper making machinery in the day. James Cropper’s No3 machine received an upgrade in '55/'56 with a similar cylinder from Bertrams. And in around 1973 Henry Cooke at Milnthorpe replaced one of their two paper making machines with a new MG cylinder from Walmsley’s which Wynns handled and they loaded it onto a barge at Preston dock which sailed to Barrow and then Wynns brought it to Milnthorpe and installed it in the Mill.Cheers Bewick.

Took me a while to ferret out your remarks amongst all that confusion of quoting, Bewick, but in answer to it I would say that we have seen some of Patrick’s mounts before on here and they are always a credit to him and the companies he has worked for.

Nothing wrong with Dan’s enterprise either. As far as Mike is concerned I applaud his efforts over the years though don’t know him personally but count his Dad as a friend of many years standing.

Well Spardo at least you’ve answered a couple of things for me firstly that “pv83” aka Patrick is a Driver and not an operator so with the best will in the world he is not in a position to criticise in any shape or form the business and operation of MAP ! Secondly while I may have a bit of banter with Dan’l I do have respect for him for being able to coax a living out of his ancient " Foden DAF" but to put it bluntly Dan’l runs one motor as an O/D and Mike Ponsonby runs a pristine fleet of 15 units and 25 trailers so there is no comparison to be had as we are talking “chalk & cheese” ! IMHO MAP is a cracking well run operation and I acknowledge that there will be similar firms in the UK of equivalent calibre but again IMHO there are non better than MAP ! So if you want to question my credentials for passing my opinion on MAP feel free to do so as I believe my almost 30 years as an operator in the industry will stand any amount of scrutiny. Cheers Bewick.

The trouble with you Denzil is that you’ve inhaled that much of your own smoke you actually believe it you and Mike by the sound of it think everyone wants to be like you well they definitely do not .
Believe me if I wanted a Scania or multiple lorries I would have .
You will find a very healthy balance sheet for my ltd company and a very good balance of direct and subcontract customers.Over the years some customers have shown me begging letters from other larger hauliers wanting my work and of the royal we some of which would be mightily embarrassed if I posted it up .
