"Heavy Haulage through the years"

I was week ended with the driver of this DAF recently in Peschiera, Italy and it struck me that he was running on 45 series tyres, never saw that before! He usually pulls a step frame or a flatbed, as with the lowloader he was pushing the limits on his driving axle when loaded.

Some might find the “decorations” on his wagon interesting, it’s certainly not my cup of tea.

Saw this Schwandler unit loaded with a crashtender at the services near Alessandria, Italy. Probably on it’s way to Genoa docks…?

These two from Bonanomi were at the same services, loaded with shafts on DeAngelis trailers.

This one was parked up for the night at the Nobis truckstop in Asten, Holland.

Whilst waiting to tip at Sarens HQ, I had a stroll around the yard, it’s like an open air museum there!

Another fine example of a Felbermayr unit Johnny, and even better because it’s a DAF this time

Thanks Patrick. Quite a trailer.

Always a shame to see good gear neglected.

A nice photo of a Mercedes from the German company Wacker Schwerstransporte, based in Filderstadt (just south of Stuttgart). Their yard is in a location with a suitable street name to the trucks they run - Mercedesstraße.

There is no getting away from the heavy haulage boys in orange. The Dutch company VD Vlist with numerous depots around Europe is well known for their highly professional work. They seem to have their fingers in quite a few pies.

Here are a couple of Volvos from their fleet.

I just came across a Vintage heavy haulage demonstration video on YouTube. Some amazing machinery on display.

Here is one of them - a Pickfords Foden leading a Metopolitan Water Board Foden being pushed by a R.Hazell Recovery Foden - viewable around the 2 min 25 sec in the video.

Sorry not a Guy but a Foden.

Excellent Dean. Great pictures from Paul.

I reckon It’s powered by a Gardner straight-8, maybe a 8 LXB? What’s its power output and transmission? Thanks.
