Geoff Makinson won a price with the Autocar when he drove it down to the “La Locomotion en Fête” festival in France in 2019, a very knowledgeable man with close ties to the heavy haulage industry.

A superfractioning tower (42.6m long, 80t) on it’s way from Oldbury to the BP plant in Grangemouth. Although the name Wynns appears on “Challenger”, at the time it was already part of the United fleet.

It’s been a while since we had some FTF’s on, so here goes

Meanwhile in France…

Some pic’s of “Challenger” in it’s last days in Wynn’s livery, seen here hauling a transformer (14 in total, all destinated for the South of the UK, all part of a big replacement programme) using a Cometto girder frame and Nicolas bogies.

Another wagon in it’s original livery before it got the Econofreight make-over, Sunters Titan seen here hauling part of a big gantry crane made by Wellman Booth, destinated for the nuclear power plant in Sellafield.
