Apologies if this has been posted here before, but for some unknown reason this (from more than 3 years ago) turned up on my youtube feed today:

I remember seeing Heanor back in the 80s towing wide/ heavy/ oversize loads, and it’s a little sad to see another famous name disappear.

Well I haven’t seen it before, indeed I asked the question ‘what happened’ on here some time ago, so thank you for that. Heanor was very near to where I lived so a very long time ago, when they advertised for drivers, I applied. I had plenty of experience in long distance haulage but, in those pre Econofreight days, none in heavy haulage so, despite a good report and a clean sheet on a test drive round Ilkeston with big Neil, I wasn’t successful. Always has been a source of great regret only alleviated somewhat by my time at Econofreight and others.

Ah! They ran heavy DAFs! That’s why I remember them. Thanks Oily,

More about Heanor’s here; viewtopic.php?t=146512
Peter Searson explained in a interview with Heavy Torque what the reasoning was behind shutting down the haulage side of the firm, I’ll see if I can dig it up.
One of his nephews started carrying the Heanor name on the door again, although not in the traditionel red and white, it’s good to see a familiar name back on the roads.

Cheers Oily, the MAN was replaced by a Volvo though, the latter being a better tool for the job
