About the time I left the UK the power plant would have been a 2 stroke and the G/box epicycle. what would this unit have in it PD, its certainly pleasing to the eye.

Indeed it is but, although I know why he is doing it, each time I look I worry about that ‘one leg over the line’ strategy of his, Very dangerous and he would have to not let his attention slip for an instant to avoid wipeing out a family car on the hard shoulder.

Looks like a fair old pull solo, all credit to Jack Chambers for the photos at Narrabri NSW.
Oily

Couple of pics from a time when Glasgow was a major builder of steam loco’s.

Hard to say but it would be the biggest so perhaps a C12 450 Cat or ■■■■■■■ ism11 420 ,the 440 was only available for approximately 1 yr around 2000 if I’am correct.

As for the gear box 16 sp Zf although It could of been heavier spec .

Bollox Dan’l ! Now this is a shot of a REAL UK Heavy Haulier in action and these outfits could pull the Foden and it’s load along behind it at the same time ! :open_mouth:

On the contrary Denzil if you were to compare the above foden to a Scania of the same age and engine capacity the Scania would look extremely poor under test conditions.cheers Dan’l.

Come on Dan’l test conditions are entirely, and completely, different from actual everyday operation in “the real world” So how come Scanias are still front and centre and Fodens are “cough cough” nowhere to be seen ! except of course in the “DP” fleet of “protected species”

Near as I can make out Patric and Oily the KW belonged to Heavy Haul defunct since 2015 but they had some W904 and W909 models fited with Cat C15 550hp and C16 engines 600hp plus a bit if twin turbo.

Thanks PD and in view of the stirling job the Fodens did here in the days when 220hp ■■■■■■■ was huge pulling multiple trailers over roads that at best were tracks I.m with you re comparison to Scanias ability.

Me too Dig, and I love that picture too. No doubt a double drive X difflock to pull itself though anything and, with trailers dropped, and well ballasted, if empty, with anthills, to pull other trains with single drive tractors through the rivers.

Maybe our in-house “specialist” that hails from Leatherhead can explain a thing or two about what went wrong at Foden’s HQ

I’m not a big fan of that strategy either David, I always stick between the white lines for the same reason you’ve mentioned (and a lot of lorries seem to take a 45m break now on the hard shoulder for some reason) and because there’s so much muck (especially in the UK it seems) on the hard shoulder, I for one like to avoid punctures as best as I can!
