Top pictures Danne. How did you manage to resist not buying a whisky? Nice to see a few Scottish ones in there. Patrick would be paying me a personal visit if I had posted your last picture on this forum.

Try not to drool Johnny… And as for that last pic, for some reason the camera went out of focus, because the old Volvo in the background was what Danne tried to photograph
I was a bit confused at first Danne, thought you were in a brothel…

Certainly, some of you will give the model, mechanical specifications and year of this brand new Scammell.
Nice one Froggy!
All I can say is that it’s a Explorer, and it followed up the Pioneer. And basically it’s a improved Pioneer, the Explorer was first introduced in 1950, with a Meadows petrol engine at first…?
Just goes to show that there is nothing new under the sun, Patrick, but thanks for reviving those 2 threads.
The first one I have never seen before, because, as Wheelnut alluded, it was during my long hiatus from TN.
The 2nd one was earlier, before I left, and the pictures I posted, no longer there via Image Shack, are some of those I have already re-posted here. I’ll go back and see if I can work out which were missing and re-post.
I am not sure we got an update about Tom Llewellyn, a man I had great respect and liking for, despite our professional differences during the strike. He knew that I had done my best to avoid it in the first place, and I think understood why I couldn’t finish it when he wanted me to. Perhaps someone has later info.
Also, the man who took over from him, Geoff (?), who was 2nd in command at Markfield when I worked there. A good bloke also with whom I had a chance to reminisce years later when I called in to ask if his fitters would do a minor repair on my Foden wagon and drag. He knew of my recent self-reduction from manager to driver and I think it might have been connected with Stillers, because he was pumping me about possible work for my then company, Toray. While I was there I noticed my old Daf, 222T, one of those posted earlier here, then retired and used as a yard shunter. Be glad to hear any update on Geoff and indeed any ex Markfield drivers. All good blokes.
I’ve obviously never met the man, but what I always thought was a good laugh was that he removed all the badges of the tractor units, because he didn’t liked free advertising

A Bernard, but not sure of the model.
Johnny this has the looks of a Leyland Super Hippo 1950/60 build,I googled Bernard and the Renault brand came up but I was unable to find anything else, perhaps Leylands supplied some cab parts. The model I refer to were powered by the 600 engine.
A superb series of photographs has been posted over the past day or so. Thanks gents. A few thoughts/asks:
The Tractomas’ look stunning. The smaller version appears almost dainty next to its big brother. IIRC, there were three sizes. Michel may be able to confirm or deny that.
I have never seen a log railway like that before. I bet it was pretty useless in the rain. I wonder why they wer not tempted to weld treads into the wheels?
Loading logs cross-ways has been made illegal in GB, I believe. I don’t think those men are too worried about them falling off. What make of tractor is on the front of it? I’ll guess at Autocar.

This yellow 6 wheeler is certainly not a Bernard, though the shape of the cab is roughly the same. I’d bet for a Super-Hippo too.
