Cheers Dean!

Interesting to read that they’ve replaced a double drive bogie of that Volvo for a more solid Leyland one…

Good article Deano and an excellent resteration job Jspg.

I do like this truck I think if Scammel had entered this unit into the road train market here in Aus they would have had an impact certainly a better truck the the Crusader., but i think a better stronger bull bar would have had to be fitted.

Dig

They did sell the S24’s at the kiwi’s though DIG? Or am I completely off the map now…?
How about the S26, was that on the Australian market back then?

I caught up with Mick another old workmate recently from our desert days in the north he has come up with a few photos i think will fit in.
Dig

The photo is great, bring them on. It looks the part DIG. Of course, Sir Patrick will have to give the final approval, but at least sure far enough away if he takes a dislike to it.

Any idea what is in the drums Dig?

Cheers

Spardo:
Even with the tyres on the blade of the ‘backstop’ dozer, I reckon if push came to shove ( :unamused: ) all that weight would make a right mess of the Hippo front end.

And do they really mean ropes, not chains, to the rear dozer? I can’t see either.

Bit of a bum clenching moment if you begin to feel the drives ‘hopping’. :open_mouth:

I was thinking the same Spardo, on the end of a rope. But the title, and in the text, it seems to suggest it was rope. Brave or madness indeed.

Not guilty me lord it was Mate Mick who had the problem but he soldiered on,
The other where the turntable jaw broke and the dolly and trailer disconnected did cause some time sitting under the worry tree but 4x 20ton jacks some old railway sleepers and a bit of digging and whole lot of swearing got everything back into place.

I had my own problems on another job

Never saw either here in West Aus Patrick maybe the eastern states i don’t know and need someone like NZJamie to answer for NZ,
I Doo like that S24 though a bit longer wheel base with a 1500litre fuel capacity and would have been the ducks nuts.

Cheers DIG, although it’s quite mild here too… at 10c… I’m tempted to put me shorts on

Anyway, I would like to wish all the “usual suspects” on here a merry Christmas and wish everyone all the best for 2019.

Some pic’s of what I’ve been up to these past few weeks, had me occupied for a long time, 4 weeks on the road in total, I’m glad I haven’t got any driving to do until January…

Started by going to the UK, tipped a cherry picker, loaded a jet engine in Derby destinated for Toulouse, took a empty engine stand with me in Toulouse destinated for Derby, swapped that for a module that was going to Berlin, after that I went to Vienna to pick up a propeller sort of thing for Cardiff, tipped that on a Sunday, had 45h off in Newport, headed to Derby once again to pick up an engine for Oslo airport (Gardermoen), loaded a used rigid for export in Oslo, brought that down to Hamburg, went to a place near Dresden after that to load a case that saw me go back to Hamburg again to tip it… and after that job, set sail to the yard and that was that…
