Not a hi viz in sight and the lad still has his riggers on in the pub on a day off, proper Middlesbrough lads

Thats was interesting.
Normal lads doing what they had to do. No heros.
Interesting half hour. Are Econofreight still about?
Enjoyed that.
My old man drove for a nearby firm and got wind of this so took me to watch it depart. Crazy to see it after all these years. Think i was about 7 at the time.
Bit of a wimpy route to go. Shouldāve gone up Birdlip

No. Long gone
Shame.
All good lads, Gary on the trailer went on to be the driver of the āHerculesā Unipower, Derek got promoted to supervisor and was one of the best at the job, Bobby ālittle legsā Bowden is sadly no longer with us neither is Steve āFordyā Ford.
As said Brambles bought Econofreight , they didnāt invest in it and it slowly sank, the light heavy side (upto 80 tonnes) was sold to Sarens and merged into Sarens subsidary GE Curtis.
The heavy side and SPMT/Jacking and skidding operations stumbled on for a couple more years but with outdated equipment and no investment it struggled and was finally sold to Abnormal Load Engineeering.
Econofreight worked all over the world sending trucks/trailers and drivers/crew as far afield as Canada , the Middle East, Trinidad, South Africa and many others, as well as breaking many heavy lift/road move world records.
Its transport engineering was world class - Econofreight did the loads others said were impossible, It was easily one of the best firms I ever worked for.
Another different move, this time in North London

different planet/different breed if you could take to that kind of work, but it must be well satisfying getting wherever you got to without major carnage.
obviously you had to be well up for pub life, camaraderie, and always carry a knife to peel apples and oranges with when you were flat lit at 3mph.

Surprised they moved that in daylight, the used to make you sit in the works unit at the end of the M11 until after 10pm and then expect you to be ready for the off 30 seconds after they had arrived !
They made it look easyā¦not my scene but I would like to say I had done it
