Heartbreaking story

Anyone read this week’s CM article “Our Driver Killed A Cyclist”? Truly heartbreaking.
It shows 1) there are two sides, 2) one side never gets told by the mainstrem press - guess which one.

I found the article very disturbing and have to feel for all involved. When I was a manager it was the one thing I dreaded every day. Every day I didn’t get that kindda call was a bonus.

This is in the same week my mate rang me to say one of his drivers has just run over an old lady. Sat in stationary traffic, lights changed, he moved off, she was at the near side front corner crossing the road with a zimmer frame. Dead at the scene apparently.

Very distressing for the driver, manager is probably just as stressed but for other reasons and everyone at the company will be involved one way or another.

And yes the press offer a very one sided view.

I have just been reading that story this afternoon and thought after 40 odd years on the lorries how lucky I was never to have an incident like that as until it happened you would never know how you would handle something like that. Eddie.

For a bit of an update read Will Shiers editorial in todays CM a very telling insight into cyclist attitudes!

As a (relative) newbie to the HGV world, I’m not sure what CM is?

Also, is there a link to this article online, or is it magazine only? I’d be interested to read this.

Cheers people.

Commercial Motor- it’s a magazine.
