heart attacks

i was speaking to a driver this morning at samlesbury brewery at preston, just usual stuff, what do you carry, employer, and so on, he then told me the company he works for sends him out with about 20 drops for inner and outer london, most of it handball, and he has only just got his license back after suffering from a heart attack (his second one), the work he is doing probably contributed to his condition through stress, i was completely shocked as to why he would still put up with that kind of work, my question is, if you suffered a heart attack and you was doing milti drop handball, would you.
(A) go back to doing that kind of work,

(B) get a job on light duties, ie trailer swaps, trunking,

(C) don’t bother getting your hgv back, sign on and hope the government train you to do something else.

I think it depends on what his exact heart condition is. Physical activity is part of the recovery process for some conditions , I believe.

They won’t offer you any training at all especially now with the budget cuts.

Once you have recovered they tell you to get back to normal, at least thats what the hospital told me. :sunglasses:

Heart attack is unlikely (but not impossible) to be caused by 20 multi drops round London. :bulb:

no but London could well add to the cause,

Maybe the question here is what should the driver do, most of us here are likeminded we go out to earn a living, do not depend on the state, and on the odd time we need help feel let down.
So survive on £56 a week, or go back to work and kill yourself to feed your family?
Not a single parent family, dependant on state handouts, or immigrant, we all know it is impossible to get the help we have contributed to for years…

As long as the fella does not over exert him self,or get to wound up because of (gob st’s) in the office,or anywere while driving he should be able to carry on regardless.Though he should be very aware of the medication he’s on, if he does start to over do it  .The aim is keep cool :sunglasses: keep calm  eat correctly  and get on and enjoy life. “oh” and if someone does really ps you of after all that, just turn away climb back in the cab and run the mother’s :smiling_imp: bar-steward over.

Inner London er… no thanks lol. I’d still do truck driving but would look for something a little easier

London is fine once you switch your brain to London mode. ie. don’t let anyone in, don’t let anyone out and just drive defensively everywhere! Works fine. London driving is basically a free-for-all : whoever gets there (gap in traffic) first, wins!

you are spot on with this duracell, the guy was about 50 year old, had 2 attacks, he had no choice but to go back to the same company, (who incidently has the worst attitude of any company boss stories that i ever heard from a driver), fit or not 20 drops, no thankyou, i go to london with 2 drops and that stresses me out, let alone spending 2-3 days driving round like a div

i would get a job on the boxes.
