Health @ safety gone mad

I am sure that Moose will correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the quarry I worked from now requires seat belts to be worn in the quarry (some of the older trucks had to have them retrofitted even though they didn’t need them for road use) and the cab door has to be locked and motor turned off when visiting the weighbridge. Safety glasses and hart hat are worn when entering the quarry for loading, door locked again at batching plant. There is a chap monitering the cameras around the site and any breech of rules earns the driver a days suspension. It all makes the job a little harder but you either conform or ship out I guess?

Pete.

Some of those flashing LED warning lights are incredibly bright, especially if they’re set onto quick flash mode and you happen to catch one full in the eye.Against those and what Ched said about multi revolving beacons,a 21w indicator light has very little chance of standing out.

did an urgent load once but was once refused entry to the site because my hard hat was the wrong colour.
wasnt a problem for me as 1 phone call fixed the problem, the voice at the end of the phone after an hour of waiting was return the load too the supplier.
was told later that the supplier had tried too get the customer too loan me a hard hat too tip as the load was urgent, the customer refused so the supplier ordered me too return the load too them for which they paid for both ways.

British sugar bury st edmunds, had to wear a hard hat and goggles to pump pallets out of a fridge trailer. :unamused:

I’ve had the wrong colour hard hat as well, St Fergus gas terminal Peterhead. Security hand me this manky green thing I took one look at it and refused point blank to put it anywhere near my head, but as it turns out they were desperate for the electronic gear I had on cos after a couple of calls the now stroppy faced security guard hands me a nice new one .

The vibe I’m picking up from this thread is most of the H&S crap is down to jobsworth gate/security staff who get a kick out of making other peoples lives hell.

I have to wear this lot for pretty much 8 hours a day, in 80 degrees of heat. All PPE must be worn inside the building otherwise it’s an instant disciplinary. The only thing I’m allowed to take off when not inside the building is the respirator otherwise, again, it’s an instant disciplinary. What the powers that be fail to realise is, that with it being so hot in the area I work in, either my safety glasses immediately steam up or the windows on the machine/wagon immediately steam up. I’ve brought this up on a number of occassions and am told to wait for the glasses/windscreens to clear before continuing, however, if my machine is stood for any period, I have to go to the office and answer questions. If it wasn’t so tragic it would be funny. I understand the need for health and safety but common sense should also play a big part because it’s crippling the country

Ever noticed when the office staff or directors or indeed the H&S ■■■■■ herself walks across the site to get to their car or go to the food wagon or just cross the yard on an errand, they aren’t wearing a hi viz, steel toe caps or hard hat? Strange that. Presumably they are classed as educated workers and therefore too intelligent to get crushed by a reversing lorry or speared by a fork lift.

Seems to all be based on imagined class differences, mate. The impenetrable shield of self-importance. Premier league bulls**t.

woody2808:

So you play conkers as well

Delivering heating oil we now have to have the h&s approved flashing led’s going only , no hazard lights ! Because if your on the side of the road a another driver could mistake hazard light as truck indicating because they may not see both sides hazards going but the flashing led’s will give them a clear idea that you are stopped as they race past flat out …

Where do you work that requires a respirator? Just curious really.

I reckon that’s not far off becoming our new national anthem. Seems to fit the British mood far better than everything else. I thought it was great when they played it at the Olympics.

I went to a balfour beatty site in felixstowe on friday with some air conditioning units, i was unloading about 300 yards from a school theyd already built and were fitting the units to, after id pulled curtains back i asked sum fella where i could go for a ■■■■■ to which he replied… i know your only a delivery driver but youve gotta put safety glasses on and gloves… he must have thought i had a right weapon…

Shame we can’t all stand up to them and tell them to eff off.

I normally offer to leave site with the goods nowadays rather than pander to the idiots. That normally see an instant relaxation of H&S rules because they want the goods.
