Health and Safety Challenge

Fill yer boots, the next time you are challenged with some spurious H&S law, challenge it, report it and make the daft pillocks look foolish.

hse.gov.uk/contact/contact-myth-busting.htm

A few examples of the 2012 myths already challenged :stuck_out_tongue:

Enquirer told by campsite they could not have two people sleeping in a campervan and two in a tent due to health and safety regulations

Employee queries advice to wear summer footwear with enclosed toe and supported back

Complainant told airport would not provide temporary footwear because of health and safety

Truck driver asked to give keys to another person when unloading or loading for health and safety reasons

hse.gov.uk/myth/myth-busting/index.htm

a lot of interesting stuff on here, some of which makes the Elf and Safety mob look a bit silly…

The HSE likes to do this sort of thing, pretending that they’re trying to free sensible adults to act sensibly and that they’re a very moderate bunch really.

What they’re actually trying to do is to avoid the HSE itself taking the blame for decisions made on the orders of insurance companies, county councils, etc.

They don’t like the words ‘health and safety’ being misused where it might be thought to apply to them, but they don’t care about the terror of civil litigation which is actually what drives much of this crap.

Whats wrong with rigger boots all of a suden, got to be lace ups ect ect, I liked riggers best .

You get your keys when you tell them you need your air conditioning on :sunglasses:

but does anything get done about it?

Had to revive this thread to tell you about my latest H&S bs example :unamused: . When delivering to a biscuit factory I was handed the usual hair net (although my head is completely shaved bald :unamused: ) I normally ask them if it would be ok to just tie my hair back instead but that normally just goes wooooosh…right over their heads when they answer “No it,s the rules”, but if that wasn’t bad enough they gave me a beard guard :open_mouth: …for my 5mm long goatee :open_mouth: , so here I was with my pink hairnet and white beard guard looking like a bad unconvincing Santa, I’m sure the ■■■■■■■■ just do it for a laugh to make us look like knobs to brighten their boring days up.

These are more food hygiene laws than H&S, no one want a 5mm goatee hair in their jammie dodger

lol at Robroy!

I think one of the reasons for H&S gone mad is all these No Win No Fee companies. Companies nowadays seem to make up even the most stupid H&S laws to prevent people making ludicrous claims when they make a ■■■■ up and trip/fall/slip etc etc when they are in the workplace.

Not much chance of that when I’m sat in my cab while being tipped hundred+ yards and about 4 brick walls away from production site, but that’s real world stuff not h&s world.

Ive been told many times theyve been banned from building sites, so how comes most sites i go to the Site Agent is either wearing riggers or wellington boots

We’ve been told that riggers are banned because they cannot offer any ankle support on rough ground… Lace ups only.

Compensation culture again! :unamused:

We deliver a lot of food containers and when loading we have to wear hairnets. Even though the production of them is on the other end of the factory. We still have to wear them while to load up the products that are boxed and shrink wrapped.

It is OTT but its easier to just do as they say to make life easier. Plus those hairnets are great for wiping dust off the dash

Rob Roy could try wearing the hairnet lower down.

Miss your point mate how low do you suggest ?.. bearing in mind I DID have me jeans on  , the beard guard was a type of net.

I make the little one wear this to prevent her getting run over when her mum gets the dyson out
