Can someone help me with the following which has bugged me for years. When a vehicle has got one defective headlamp why does the remaining headlamp appear to be twice as bright as usual often causing discomfort to oncoming drivers or blinding you in your mirror as it approaches from behind.
Didn’t early model Axors do something like this? Im sure that if a headlamp blew, it reverted to the main beam. I just seem to remember my dad always moaning about this when one went in his Axor. He used to have to disconnect the bulb so it didn’t blind other road users at night.
I’ve heard many drivers comment on the number of misaligned headlights there are knocking about these days. Is headlight alignment not covered in the MoT nowadays?

It would have been more sensible of him to replace the blown bulb!

Or is it just me ■■
Perhaps its because you are focusing on the one headlight
Theres only one sun and if you look at it long enough it can cause discomfort .

Agreed. But it wasn’t one of those companies that had roadworthiness of their trucks in mind. Blown bulbs were the least of the drivers worries. Probably explains why they are no longer on the go.

yep,get tested just like cars.
I’ve noticed that some drivers change their own bulbs without having a single brain cell in their head.
They put the bulbs in upside down, you’ll see it very common on rear lights where it looks like 1 of the sidelights is actually a brake light, it’s because a twin filament bulb put in upside down, the voltage is going down to the bright side instead of the dim side.
In a headlight, it has 3 prongs so it’s fitted properly, but I’ve seen these (when taking them out to change the bulb) in upside down meaning the light is in a different place in the reflector, meaning it’s aim is wrong.
When you hover the pointer over the thread title in the forum list the “punchline” does not appear, but I thought it would be what was stated FWIW. In other words I agree with the OP though I have no idea why (the remaining headlight seems brighter).

Hiya…their was a talk years ago about beam braking. this is what your talking about. have you ever seen
the old rolls and bentleys. they have one spot light in the centre of the bumper bar. this was used years ago
to make the oncomeing cars lights not dazzle the driver.tractors have headlights close together like
the old style land rovers and Motorbikes(yes i have some) a close together or a single headlight somehow splits
the other car(lorry)headlight beam. so if you have one lamp out it splits the other car beam dazzeling them.
don’t know how it works just saw it on a tele one time.tommorows world in about 1966 i think.
cheers John
its an optical illusion
cos one headlight is not working
all attention is focused on the one that is
its simelar to a woman with large breasts
when talking to her its difficult to look at her face
as your eyes get drawn down to the chest area

Does the final bit apply to other women talking to her as well? Or is it just a male pastime staring at ■■■■■■■??

i would imagine its exactly the same for other women who look at other women with large breasts
they will look at the chest area and cleavage /bra showing through see through blouse with ■■■■■■■ standing out
one because they are a lesbien or 2 because they will have a good look before making bitchy jealous type coments to another (3rd ) women
