Heading to Dover for ferry?

Allow LOTS of extra time.

On the radio, it is saying 8 hour delays

As if by magic checks have now been relaxed .

bald bloke:
As if by magic checks have now been relaxed .

They should be doing the checks in the opposite direction

8 hours delay won’t be much good for those people on booze cruises today will it?

Considering they are so worried about the threat entering their country, why have they not rounded up all the migrants in Calais? Surely those fitting the profile and already on their soil are more important to catch than George and Doris in their Rover and caravan.

Or is my cynical nature detecting more tactics to try and scupper brexit

Maybe having them all in one place in Calais means they can keep an eye on them, except for the ones that make it here, but that’s not their problem anymore, the Jungle is looking more like a permanent shanty town every time I go past.

Considering there has supposedly been a state of emergency in France for months now and security was supposed to have been tightened for Euro 2016, it does seem strange that this has happened the first day of the holiday after we voted out?
Anybody know if there are major delays on the Belgium, Italian or German borders, because of increased security?

Was thinking the very same.

Spain gives Gibraltar the long delays getting out of Gib for Customs to check every vehicle, when the law says free movement at borders .

Well i went to Italy on holiday via road a few weeks ago and apart from stopping to get a vignette at Basel drove through all the borders after being waved on.

The delays are up to 15 hours now :open_mouth:

There are security checks for months now, between Belgium and France at Rekkem, sometimes at Longwy near Luxemburg, and at Valenciennes, sometimes with severe delays.
On the rekkem border they even had quite a few bad accidents, one in april and one in may, and a lot of minor shunts, each time in the traffic jam caused by border control by the french.

all I can say to that is thank god I don’t do European work

The Dover/Calais/Dover route is crap and always will be, because of the amount of traffic that uses it, the slightest little problem be it bad weather, industrial action etc and all of a sudden BOOM, it becomes a complete nightmare.
Haven’t heard of any problems on Dieppe/Newhaven, Portsmouth/Caen or Portsmouth/le Havre routes this week end.

We do a regular Madrid round trip, and we’ve stopped using Dover-Calais. We now go Portsmouth Bilbao, and while it costs about £1500 more, with the saved time, diesel and tolls, it’s a no brainer

There were a few holidaymakers on the radio saying it was appalling having such long delays… Maybe they should now put into prospective how the haulage driver has to cope when their held for days.

So much for Brexit having a negative effect on people going on holiday.

You can guarantee that in the absence of the pesky tourists the likes of the bias bbc wouldn’t report about it

Sounds a great route , how much time on boat ?
Jim.

Hey, I didn’t realize that the rail line between Dover and Folkstone was totally dug up at Shakespeare Hill… :open_mouth:

You can see the air shafts for that pair of narrow tunnels alongside the A20 road. Seems rather a lot for such a short stretch of tunnel tho.

Agreed. The French are inflicting “Operation Stack” upon our general public now - as punishment for Brexit.

What amazes me is how so many people can actually be affording to take a holiday in France this year - looking at how expensive it is now. :open_mouth:
