Head on with artic - Stuston - fatality

Why would anyone buy a correct wheel drive car with a system which prevented them from hanging the tail out on wet roundabouts? One of the reasons truck driving isn’t quite as much fun as it once was is that traction control largely prevents you from doing this.

Is the right answer. They think they are a lot more capable than they really are - not to mention also thinking they’re a lot more important than they really are.

And getting worse.

Was a time when the ultimate driving machine didn’t have electronic wizardry to keep the wheels on the tarmac, and utlimate driver flooring it out of greasy roundabout often resulted in spin up, spin out, wheeee crash.
Now the soddin electrics compensate for the plank behind the wheel…who as result really believes he is the ultimate driver cos he can power out of roudabouts without it ending up arse backards…

If you go on motoring forums you often see comments about rear brakes wearing out on their modern cars too soon…mention the (insert whatever fancy letters now stand for ‘‘keeping the idiot on the road’’) system that keeps 'em on track, when they think its their skill alone that allows 'em to put a full 250hp down on a greasy roundabout, and they go quiet.

oddly enough its these people who are spinning on the line at crail (drag racing strip) while the ‘inferior jap cars’ are heading towards the other line. Or they could grow up. My legnum has 280 horses but i drive it sensibly. Just because the power is there doesn’t mean you have to use it all the time :unamused:

£10 says the BMW overtook the truck into the path of the Toyota.

No way. Its almost certain a speeding lorry over rided his limiter, over took a BM, the toyota took evasive action and hit the BM ?

Mike C, you’ve turned into…Albion!  :smiling_imp:

The Legnum is also 4wd - got a pic somewhere on my Facebook page of my old VR-4 - sure mine was 260bhp

Used to have a WRX with all wheel drive which would grip the road really well. Wife’s got a 225 megane now which is only FWD. The difference is huge in the ability to get the power down on the road.

And how did the truck end up off road?

None of you just to conclusions or anything geeeezz :unamused:

Terry T:
Let’s hope Mr HGV was sticking to 40, otherwise he might just get the blame for this death regardless of who hit who.

Very good point Terry T. I will not speed on any road in a HGV for that very reason. Even if it is proven the other drivers fault, the HGV driver will be in the firing line as he was speeding

Not to mention the daily snail headline “Thundering Juggernaught causes a head on collision while driving FLAT OUT!”

That stretch of road has both 40 & 50 limits along it due to the number of junctions and probably the fact that various transport companies use those junctions to access their premises. Bearing this in mind no one should be overtaking, but they do.

Can’t see any solid white lines on the pic?

If you require solid white lines to determine whether you should overtake or not then you shouldn’t be driving. Many drivers use common sense to decide.

I’m just looking at the picture, nothing to show it is unsafe to overtake.

Not sure of the exact piece of road that it is on so I could not comment on it being safe/unsafe to overtake, all I said is there is no white line to say you cant.

It is a deceiving stretch of road and particularly the northbound because you may have cars that have been stuck behind a lorry, this is a Tesco route from Thurrock to Norwich, for nearly twenty miles.

It should have been upgraded years ago but their answer was put a 50 limit on it and the problem will go away. Needless to say it hasn’t.

If you ever have the misfortune to use any part of the A140 between A14 and Cromer stick to the limit.

Pre 1998 with auto was 260 but the manual was 280. 1998 onwards models both got 280. i held out for a manual

Solid lines are usually there for a very good reason.Any driver that ignores them has no common sense.Apart from that common sense is severely lacking with a lot of drivers these days.

Do you mean like this chap, obviously didn’t like all the extra traffic caused by the strike the other day.

I drive a BMW, E39 5 series, it’s had an intermittent ABS issue since I bought it which meant Traction Control and ABS were both disabled - it’s not intermittent anymore and hasn’t had ABS or Traction Control for over 2yrs.

193bhp, and it handles quite nicely on greasy roundabouts.

Yes it’s easy to spin up the rear wheels, but it’s also easy to control

So do I, and I’m glad were young and trendy and your correct it sticks to the road very nicely, but switch it all off and fun is had
