Head of fleet

How much wold you expect a head of fleet at a big outfit like asda to earn?

Thruppence and a packet of fruit polo’s

Two bowls of rice and a conker?

Whats a head of fleet?

I don’t expect them to “earn” anything.
But I reckon they get “PAID” a lot more than any driver.

I would expect in the region of £70 - £80,000 per year + car + benefits.
Depends on the company, but Asda/Tesco etc. will be paying somewhere around that.

I have seen an advert for ‘Head of Fleet Provision’ paying £92,000 + benefits :open_mouth:

For a big firm like ASDA,you’ve got to be looking at 100k + a year plus benefits…prob. a lot more :open_mouth:

  • all the kick backs :sunglasses: I would have thought the actual wage to be secondary.

2500 drivers and a dozen depots to look after has to be around the £1000,000 mark, a team manager probably gets £30+ I suspect a depot manager would get around £50,000 so yes £100,000+ would be about right, are you thinking about applying?

I doubt they pay anything like these estimates.

I think the estimates are about right, when you consider what other professions pay, a head teacher of a large secondary school would expect to earn around £90,000+ if a driver who has no formal qualifications can earn £30,000+ with very little pressure or responsibility then the national director of transport with one of the big operators
would expect £100,000+ with benefits.

Operations manager in the UK should be earning 70-90K.
I was an ops manager a few years back, if the head of fleet was getting more than me, I would have been a tad peeved…However, if he was Director status, then that would negate the feelings of ‘peeved’

Schools and other taxpayer funded ‘industries’ spend other peoples money, ours by the way, with scant regard…its always been easy to throw other peoples money about, i would expect private or shareholder owned companies to be a bit more careful with the stuff.

Interesting that you link to Tescos graduate scheme, someone in my family went through a very large company’s graduate scheme, unsurprisingly she too was very highly paid, however they got what they wanted a Cambridge First Honours (not needlework or media studies either) grad selected from 5000 applicants who had to work all hours the good Lord sent, grad scheme requires the recruits to work and live anywhere the company wants for a good number of years, those jobs really are at a premium, yes very well paid but my word the company gets their moneysworth, few moaning minnies here would put up with it.

not sure what “head of fleet” means, but if any guide

Carlsberg TM 26K-32k

sainsbury general Manager 43k-89k

next distribution general manager (c6) 50k-69k

the highest salary on the list of Transport and distribution managers have is £130k for something called a CFC manager at Ocado

all based on Sept 2010 sourced from documents in the public domain.

pointless me trying to post details of bonuses etc as these vary tremendously from £250- 20% of salary.

I would agree with this rate, plus he/she would get spoilt from dealers from time to time.

Not sure on an exact figure but what some people have said wont be far off, maybe between £60,000 to £80,000. Head of fleet will just be responsible for the vehicles and compliance relating to trucks and trailers etc i would have thought. Huge distribution outfits like the supermarkets will also have national transport managers who will be responsible for driver compliance. The fleet team is probably a suprisingly small team aswell even though they operate 1000s of vehicles.

Well I’m head of fleet and a driver and a director I must be getting ripped off I get no where near that, must ask myself for a pay rise ,

Not too sure about tesco but I know that the head of fleet at my previous company gets his Salary and it just so happens he cancelled the maintenance contract with Scania and give it to a friend that owns a truck repair garage and there average repair costs at the garage were 180,000 per month so his salary plus a nice brown envelope off his mate… Quite a flipping lot

I wish I could apply. I expect they want more than a few gcses though.

Seeing as how I am resposible for the supply/indirect operation of over 4,500 CVs I could answer the question in my own case, as “not enough” , however as indicated in this , the inidcated salary package is between £45k and about £120k depending on operator, industry etc.

What I will say is that a good “Head of Fleet” will appreciate the most important resource he/she has, and that is the drivers/warehouse/maintenance team they control, as without them, they are nothing!!
