Greetings everyone, I’m currently looking into taking the Cat C and subsequently C+E tests and have received varying advice regarding requirements for Hazard Perception and Theory Tests, hopefully somebody here can advise me.
I passed Cat B in 1982 so have C1 through acquired rights.
I also have DCPC.
I’ve been told by some that I need to take the HPT and Theory before I can apply for a Cat C test date, others have told me that I don’t need to take it, and now I read half way down this page that if I have C1, Theory is not required?
Any advice/explanation would be greatly appreciated.
I got my Cat B in 1989 and also so have C1 through acquired rights.
I asked this same question at the end of last year and subsequently took the HPT and Theory before I could apply for Cat C training.
Benefit of C1 acquired rights with DCPC is that you don’t have to do the mod 4 tests after the practical test.
This was the route I took as I did not want to do the practical test to then fail on the show me/tell me tests! That would have been a kick in the knackers! Having DCPC means I could drive straight after the practical test for C.
Hope this helps and if someone comes in after saying I didn’t need to the HPT/Theory, well you could have chipped that up last year!
Think you’ll find you have to do HPT ( Multi choice Theory and Hazard test) before you can apply for practical test and they’re higher pass marks than standard car tests
The acquired rights for C1 you’ve mentioned apply to the CPC where you have a choice of 35hrs periodic, with no pass or fail OR do mod 2/4 which ARE pass or fail
Yes, as above. You need multiple choice theory and hazard perception before you can go any further. The exception would be if you had taken a test specifically for C1. You would then have taken the theory tests for that and would not then have to repeat them.
