Not that this will help you but my uncle had a bad stroke at age 47 ,after a short rest or a good recovery he got his licence back ,he still is driving to this day age 72 and a lot of them start with 3 am !

Don’t stress about it, just rest & get yourself well again

ADR 1:
Don’t stress about it, just rest & get yourself well again

+1 feet up chill don’t worry YOUR STILL HERE

+2 you could be in that big truckstop in the sky or have a disability so think yourself lucky and maybe look for a new adventure.

I had a minor stroke in 2007 and had a lot of mental problems afterwards, quite common apparently. Took 19 months to get back to work due to DVLA double checking everything before i got my HGV back . Do everything the doctor says and hopefully you wont take as long to get back to driving as i did .

I thought this post was going to go one of two ways and I’m very surprised it’s gone the right way,SO FAR!! Lol
Hope you get better soon mate.

Like everyone else is saying dont let it stress you out and do everything the medics tell you too, then after about 9 month re-apply for the return of you licence.I had triple heart by-pass 2 year ago and was back at work after 10 month could have been 8 but took 2 month for DVLA to sort out licence.Good luck and take care.

Have a break from driving. With Winter looming there are hundreds of courses to choose to do at night classes in colleges or Universities.
A good chance to socialise and meet people not associated in road transport.
Learn to cook, speak a new language.
A holiday would be a good idea.
Try not to get too depressed.Maybe join a gym for light exercise. No heavy weights.Cardiovascular will lift the mood and spirits or drive to a nice place for a long walk. One of our drivers joined the Ramblers club.Met his new partner there.Keep off the booze. That does nothing.
Try not to worry about the Lgv driving until the Doc says it is ok.

Best of Luck, you must get Your consultant on side, as when the doctors from their side start with silliness you can get help from your big gun.
I have been there and lost, but in all fairness I am not going to get fit enough, My heart condition means I have lost out for good, licences never to return.
It will be a pain to go through but the best advice is RELAX and get better first as otherwise its a pointless fight that you will lose, Do not rush anything and I bet it may be 12 months before your consultant wants to let you back to work . After all you are Alive and it beats the hell out of the alternative.

So kick back and enjoy life whilst you can.

Another option is to join the National Trust. For about £100 a year you get free parking and free entrance to lots of old houses and other sites. They send a book with all the places to see and what to do there.
The food in their cafes is homemade and high quality but a bit pricey.
Are you able to swim or ride a bike.?
Is courier or van work still an option.?How will not working effect the financial situation?

It’s not just the financial situation, you get pretty low, knowing you can’t work even when you feel as though you can. I’ll never get my truck licence back again but they’ve let me keep my car licence. You might have to make adjustments mate. I’m not saying it’s easy… it ain’t.
Good luck, hope you eventually get the licence back.

Another thing i forgot to mention is get in touch with the Stroke Association who can provide practical advice and help . They are very helpful and can send you leaflets etc explaining all the ways to help cope with the aftermath of your stroke and what to expect .

I think all drivers should have an aspirin a day to thin the blood. We sit 15 hours a day and no exercise and eat garage garbage food on the go.
A glass of red wine a day does wonders for the heart and lowers cholestrol and reduces the risk of a myacardial infarction.

Thanks for your advice lads.some good tips there,iv got a different job no driving, involved .my heart will always belong,to trucking, though:)

Whisky also thins the blood

So does rat poison Warfarin. They give it patients in hospital. It is not a wind up.

Funny that, my wife had a stroke last night, i told her to pack it in, I had to be up early this morning…boom…boom…well someone had to.

I wish the op all the best with his health, and take a lot of advice thats been given, if you want your licence back…fight for it, speak to your doctor, your consultant, and ask them if its possible you could continue your career, and would DVLA have good cause to refuse you a licence. Once you have their approval, you can then begin the fight…good luck.
