Having a derr moment with my hours

i do 4 on 4 off so am i right in thinking i could my 4 day shift and 2 days overtime then have 2 days off then start all over every week ?thats having at a min 45 hrs rest between shifts

Sounds fine to me. The two days off make sure you aren’t reducing breaks.

you just have to remember your hours are from sunday midnight to sunday midnight ?

Your DRIVING hours are. Your working week however starts when you do.

You could do that most weeks but not every week, apart from driving time and the 48 hour week you will need to keep an eye on your weekly rest periods.

Working 6 on 2 off you would find that there would come a time when you could not get a weekly rest period to fit into the correct fixed week.

For instance if you started working 6 on 2 off on a Monday after a regular weekly rest period, you would find that the weekly rest period required for about week 10 would fall into the following week, so you would need to have an extra day off at some point before this happens.

Having said that, an extra day or two off every few weeks probably won’t be a great sacrifice

now imm lost i thought as long as i stayed within 48 hours wtd and driving time then weekley rest was when ever my shift finishhed as imm on a rolling week

The regulations require you to have a weekly rest period every fixed week, it can be a regular weekly rest period or a reduced weekly rest period every second week, but one way or the other a weekly rest period should count for each fixed week.

Article 8 (EC) 561/2006

  1. In any two consecutive weeks a driver shall take at least:
    – two regular weekly rest periods, or
    – one regular weekly rest period and one reduced weekly
rest period of at least 24 hours. However, the reduction
shall be compensated by an equivalent period of rest
taken en bloc before the end of the third week following
    the week in question.
A weekly rest period shall start no later than at the end of six
24-hour periods from the end of the previous weekly rest
    period.

i agree entirely its what i ment i just didn’t think i needed to be word perfect for people to understand what i ment :unamused:

My mistake then .sorry. I just saw the quizzical emoticon and assumed you didn’t agree. I do agree that there’s no need to be word perfect though. Well apart from maybe tacho regs where a word or phrase misunderstood by a driver could possibly cost him/her thousands in fines.

not been funny but if any bodies knowledge of tacho law is so bad then they shouldn’t really be driving a truck most people I know that have been fined usually know the law they just choose to break it ?

Ive just started back on 4 on 4 off. The chaps here regularly do 6 on 2 off, especially as we get paid from mon to sun, meaning for 3 weeks or so you only get paid for 3 shifts despite doing 4. I’ve never heard of any problems & the office is pretty hot on WTD & drivers hours.
