Have you got a CV?

I’m looking around for a new job, but everyone seems to want a CV these days . I’m completely useless at computer stuff and to be honest I can’t remember who and when I’ve worked for firms . What happened to the good old days when you could just walk into a yard and say I’ve heard your looking for drivers ?

When I got mine back in January I just rocked up looking smartish, filled an application form in then boom, they hired. The TM must of been drunk!

Yes I do have a CV but personally I’ve never sent one out to get a a job driving trucks, and you still can go into yards and ask for a job provided the company doesn’t have logistics or Plc in their name.

However if you want a CV plenty of examples on the Internet, the secrect is to keep it short and put the relevant information in it in sections.

Yeah I’ve got a CV, and a impressive one (or so I have been told) but the thing I’m seriously lacking is references :frowning:

I went to a agency through the week, to see about getting Saturday work, the guy on the phone says “Saturday? ONLY SATURDAYS■■?” I thought aw well that’s a no then “That’s exactly what I need, guys who work elsewhere and are only looking for Saturdays”

So went in to see him and he was very interested in references, which has got me worried

In the “good old days” you could nip down to your local library and get a helping hand from the librarian, or download a CV template… or cheat and get someone else to do it for you :smiling_imp:

no

You won’t get a look in at some of the best employers in the country without one.

What’s your worry about references, have you fallen out with everyone you’ve ever worked for?

Only had 3 full time jobs since I was 18, two of them I was sacked from and the one I’m in just now… Lets just say on paper I look great, in reality management don’t seem to keen on me, seems I’ve been labeled as a trouble maker… :smiling_imp:

I’ve got one but never used it.

Good man, keeps management on their toes.

I went for my first job interview since 1979 five weeks ago and had to do a first ever CV. Took about 15 minutes with a template in Word.

And I got the job, although it was pretty much a done deal before the interview because I already did work for them but they still needed a CV. In the references bit I put them down which did raise a smile. :stuck_out_tongue:

“Thank you for attending interview Mr Bob. Now about these three people you’ve put down as references, you have listed all of their addresses as c/o Trucknet, with a side note of they are not on there every night though?”

I have 3 different cv’s, each tailored for my different qualifications.

I’d rather have them on their knees lol

Me - “There isn’t a pallet truck on the vehicle I’m taking out!!!”

Office - “Warehouse are struggling with pallet trucks at the mo, just use one at the drop”

Me - “We were made sign something stating that we were not permitted to use any manual handling equipment not owned or maintained by DHL… Is the pallet truck at the drop owned and maintained by DHL?”

Things like that make you a trouble maker

Aye your right there. I’d almost forgotten about the good old " work to rule ", don’t see much of it about now, but it was very popular in the 1970s.
Regards. John.
