phil the book:
You feel good about being flashed be careful young lady there are quite a few red blooded young men on here they may take you at your word
what makes you think that person is female?
What makes you think she is not do you know something we dont.
i can only go by the post on this thread and while there may be indications that the poster is female, i dont make assumptions like that any more due to the increase in men who like to make their vehicles look pretty. a prime example being one at the scottish tuning show
who chose a 2 tone paint job on his car. pink/purple [/quote
fannies in their scannies then theirs everyone else
Not always a fanny in a scania that’s guilty .
It was a ■■■■ in a daf that had a go at scraping the flies of my windscreen with his back doors this morning on the M6. The best of it was, the road was ■■■■■ empty , must have been lonely out there in the middle lane all alone behind his frilly curtains .
i get flashed in all the time, and give the appropriate response in return.
not unusual i suppose but i am in a service van,so i know i’ve passed them by about 1/4 of a mile when they flash so it’s a courtesy thing i’m sure.
when i’m out driving(which is about once a week depending on whats going on),i flash 'em,but i noticed people stop flashing you in when you’ve swopped places a dozen times on a 2 hr run up the M1 or whatever and it’s the same trucks swopping places over and over,as 44 ton downhill is fair quicker than 44ton going up even with a fairly worn 480 or whatever.
i drive an 18t and find that 9 out of 10 drivers do flash you in, and i always flash other trucks, vans and cars towing somthing it is a courtasy and makes everyones day go easier. I have noticed that some drivers do cut in too early and it always seem to be the ones that dont have a speed limiter. Its not only the older drivers that flash you in im only 32 and have only 5 yrs behind the wheel but i had 20 yrs sat next to my dad who taught me everything he could.
In my wee DAF 45,which does 57mph,if i get out to overtake any truck, i never pull in untill i’m flashed in,if i don’t get a flash back in,i stay out until i’m well past and out the road before i go back in again

Unless I’ve misunderstood, you’re appearing to tell the world that it’s reasonable practice to:
a) Overtake nothing in lane one whilst occupying lane two.
b) Cause an obstruction to road users behind that are both capable & wish to make better progress than your ‘…57 mph…’?
Are you the driver I regularly see driving the Punto at 60 mph (other vehicles also apply) in lane four of the M1 at Hemel when lanes one, two & three are invariably empty?
Gis a giggle & name the plinth teaches this stuff.

i think hes saying when he passes another truck unless hes flashed in he will stay out those few extra yards to make sure hes not they type that cuts people up just because hes driving a slightly faster truck

Did you have a bad day when you replied or what?..Your right you did misunderstand
1st off,im not telling anyone anything
2nd i simply meant,if i don’t get the lights to come back in,i leave it an extra few of yards to ensure i don’t create any problem to the vehicle im overtaking,i did not say i drove in the middle lane for an extra 10 miles!
‘Gis a giggle & name the plinth teaches this stuff’ ■■? <what does that mean?
3rd… no you don’t see me regularly anywhere
and 4th i am competent enough to drive properly on all roads thanks

In fact reading my original post, its written in black an white what i meant
Happy Keith has only highlighted, in red, half the post which changes the whole context of the post and how it is to be interpreted
Calm down, dear - no-one really takes any serious notice of stuff on here: It’s not as if it seriously matters, eh. However, it seems that you are trying to retract the word ‘never’ from your reasoning spiel, which is hardly a fault of mine, eh?
Honestly you lot need to get down the local disco and dance round your handbags instead of swinging them at each other! and I thought that its us ladies who are the bitchiest?
You do make my day go better thou I love a good chuckle!!
Theres a class system on the coaches too - you drive a 16/29/33 seater and passing drivers dont wave, but I get out in my own 57 seater (when I do actually get to drive it these days ) and every other driver wants to wave
daf1691:
Hi all,
haven’t been on for a while but something I’ve noticed over the last 12 months. I used to drive units & trailers but I’m now on the old class 3. I like the job as I’m home more & only deliver for the company.
When I started 20yrs ago everyone flashed every other truck driver in, flashed the indicaters as a thank-you, waved out the window for pulling out to the second lane, I think you get my drift?
I now find no one hardly flashes me in or any of the above, why? I know every truck driver is under pressure these days but come on what does it take to flash, wave etc. Are we getting lazy or just plain ignorant?
I passed an artic on the A1 last week & I was sure I’d left him plenty of room, put the left indi on looked in my mirror waited for a flash (no flash came) & pulled across. The driver drifted to his left & gave me a long flash! I know the length of my truck, I’m sure I left him at least 2 car lengths! If I was in my old truck I would bet he would have flashed me in! I find this on every run I do class1 flash class1 in etc. I let other truck drivers out at junctions etc, not even a wave of thanks. Does anyone else find this in these stressful times?
all the best,
DAF
daf1691: As for the comment on I don’t know the length of my truck, after driving for 20 years I leave it until the front of the vehicle I have passed is clearly visible in my nearside mirror before I pull across.
Problem with the majority of 7.5 tonner drivers is that they probrably got their entitlement when they passed their car test and have never done any sort of HGV training, you get a numpty car driver behind the wheel of something which they have little knowledge of, add 90 drops a day and you have a maniac on your hands.
Like the numpty in the 7.5 tonner who pulled out of a sideroad in front of me in Leatherhead on Tuesday, then when we got to a narrow bit where he couldn’t get past the oncoming car he slams it into reverse and starts coming back towards me at full pelt, didn’t even look in his mirrors
Really thought he was gonna ram me so I closed my eyes, hit the horn and braced for impact, luckily he heard and stopped about an inch from the front of my truck, decided he didn’t want to hang around so took to the pavement to get past instead
Sadly its (zb)s like that who tar everyone with the same brush
