Have the east euros gotta leave or what?

i keep hearing that they cant just come here anymore and work ,just wondering anyone got 1st hand knowledge has the worm turned so to speak. Woman near me whose an artist is returning back to the east i just wondered is it a case of even if here for ages “when u gotta go you gotta go!”

There are going to be less people coming in for sure, because entry with leave to stay will depend on being a skilled worker or for some other approved reasons. The settlement scheme is in full swing, so anyone that was here before the end of last year has the opportunity to apply and stay. Potentially if there are folks who miss the deadlines, sure they may have to go eventually. That is my understanding anyway.

Many have returned home because cost of living I the UK has risen and that £12 per hour they were getting no longer allows them to send money back home.

I think its more to do with IR35 than brexit - works out to be a lot less money without ir35 so its not worth them coming here - they earn as much in Poland.

It’s not just the money, although that’s important, but a wish to go back to their extended families, many of them getting old.

I have a neighbour who came over from Poland back in the 90s. He works in IT and his wife is a nurse. They are selling up (at a big profit) and going back to Gdansk where hi father recently had a stroke. He spent all of the lockdowns working from home and sees no reason why that will be much different if his home is in Gdansk or here. Although a nurse earns less there, the cost of living is lower so he thinks that they will be better off overall.

I think a number of them did have to leave when, thanks to IR 35, they received large tax bills from HMRC, and presumably their names remain on file so they can’t come back.
