Have a good look at yourselves

My brother-in-law died suddenly last week aged only 67. He was fine at 6pm Sunday apart from a stomach ache but by 3am Monday he’d died from a perforated bowel. Now i’m not looking for sympathy or RIP’s or condolences so please don’t start on that.
His death made me have a good look at myself, I’m 58 (no, my avatar is not me, only the big ears  )and have been smoking since I was 14 and drink gallons of coffee which can’t be good for me so I thought there’s got to be changes. So the ■■■■ have gone now and been replaced by an electronic thingy which I’m getting on quite well with and coffee has been cut to 3 cups a day and I now drink a lot of healthy stuff like fruit juice instead. Hopefully these changes might make me last a bit longer if only to outlive the bloody mother-in-law (the evil ■■■■■ is 93 and still going strong   )
Now I see a lot of drivers during the course of my work and sometimes think look at the state of them and wonder how they keep going. I know trucking is not the healthiest of occupations, you can see how unhealthy it is just by looking through the health forum on here and I don’t think the cheap HGV medicals help too much, they might satisfy DVLA and save a few quid but they don’t really tell you much about your current state of health.
I’ve just had an eye test which cost £53, I know it’s more than usual but I now know I’m not going to be diabetic in the forseeable future, no sign of brain tumours, blood pressure fine and several other things are ok, it’s surprising that your eyes can tell more about your health than any doctor can.
Anyway, I’ve rambled on a bit here, so the whole point of this post is to try to get you to have a good look at your health and lifestyle just to see if you can make any changes no matter how small which might just improve your health and keep you moaning on Trucknet for a while longer.
That’s all folks.

As i’m the big 50 this year i treated myself to one of these all dancing all singing medicals where you are tested for just about everything, well all the results and there was a lot of them come back spot on except one which was the PSA test which as older folks would know as the prostate test so now iv’e been referred to the specialist which will be Thursday, so in answer to your post yes i did have a good look at myself.

3.9 by the way and i’m 49.

I have just looked in the mirror. I see a very handsome man.

Not sure though which gimp suit looks best. I will just try that shiny one again…

Careful of that, it often ain’t that healthy and full of sugar. Much better to eat the actual fruit so you get the fibre as well rather than just drink the juice. Try replacing the fruit juice with water, stick a slice of lemon or lime in it or the fresh squeezed juice from the lemon or lime instead. Try green tea as a alternative to coffee, loads of health benefits from that.

The only good thing I’ve found about getting older so far is having a young doctor, female, stick her finger up my hoop, & it was free. :open_mouth:

ive taken a look at myself and realised people who look at me are lucky! im bloody handsome :stuck_out_tongue:

but seriously, sorry for your loss and a good point to make. after reading these forums I rarely see a sensible comment

Or failing that just sink a bottle of red at night to wash away the impurities of the days intake.

an imflamed prostate can cause a high PSA score, a prolonged dose of sulphur tablets brings it back to normal if it is just imflamation, mines been high 3 times and this was the case

Checking Prostate. Just had mine checked as I am low on iron but not bleeding visibly so they check that. All ok, jut a course of tablets and three monthly tests. I have the test kit for Bowel Cancer every three years, you get sent it when you are over sixty, and I always do the test and so far have been fine. A couple of my pals were not so they had a portion of bowel taken out and all is well with them again so it was fortunate that they did the test. Some folk just chuck the kit in the bin, stupid really as it can save your life though it is a worry until you get the results which takes a couple of weeks! You only get one body so look after it, it wears out just like your truck but isn’t as easily repaired.

Pete.

Que Sera, Sera. now going to have another ■■■ and more Aqua vitae  ie. Uisge Beatha.

Be careful too much fruit juice can erode the bowel & cause it to perforate

She told me that she’s a member on here.
Good luck on Sunday, when you go to visit her. [emoji1]

I am 50 and had one of those doctor mot’s at my local surgery last year, and apart from one of my cholesterol scores being slightly raised, I got the clean bill of health.

I lost about 2 stone as well, split up from the wife, (Related?) but have since put some back on, but still feel good.

Ken.

its the struggle with weight that’s my biggest issue, and strangely it has been made worse since moving back to an office environment.

^^^ Pretty spot on this advice, I consume water @ 2 ltrs a day, as a minimum, also, its zero fruit juices and zero coffee/tea during the week, zero alcohol during the week and plenty of salads / omelettes / fruit …

One tip I was given by a health freak mate, eat a whole grapefruit everyday, slice it up into gum shield bites, plenty of natural juice and fibre, and its pretty filling, I have one around 10.00am everyday…seems to help with my energy levels as well …just saying like

The French live on high fat dairy products, they love cheese but live to an old age with low cholesterol and myocardial infarctions lower than the UK.
The reason is the health benefits in red wine.
The Mediterranean diet of olive oil, olives, aubergines has benefits along with more sun for the bones and mental health.
Coffee reduces the onset of memory loss in
old age and may prevent mental diseases.
It can reduce the fats in blood clogging arteries.

careful with the grapefruit , if you take medication for blood pressure or statins grapefruit negates the drugs . most of my medications have " do not consume grapefruit " on the box . shame really , grapefruit was my favourite .
