Hauliers' working hours relaxed to aid supplies

Great :grimacing:
The local coop has had no milk for days and the 30 pints i panic bought the other day have gone sour

1 Hour extra driving over 4 Days!

Now that is going to make a real difference…NOT!

Let`s do a deal with the ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , get rid of the DCPC and you got a deal. Merchant Banker. :unamused:

malcolmj:
and in 3 or 4 weeks time try and explain it to the BAG or the nice Gendarmerie

Agree

This really grinds my ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  gears this does :smiling_imp:

I spend all year trying my very best to make sure that I stay legal and avoid personal prosecution by the vostapo :smiling_imp:

Then when it suits them they relax the rules!!! I for one will be sticking even more rigidly to the rules as I work enough hours and get treated like a ā– ā– ā– ā–  :smiling_imp:

Thanks I feel better now I’ve got that off my chest

Im right with you on that one mate :unamused:

The most annoying thing about this is it gives the transport unions the perfect platform to highlight the difficulties that truckers face :smiling_imp:

But as per usual they stay quiet - ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  :smiling_imp:

Translated from [zb} - naughty people who play with themselves at our expense

I think this rule should apply @ all times for those lorries fitted with the minute grabbing digi card, with the amount of time you lose in a day in traffic jams etc. Wait for it !!!

I have more infringements on my digi card than you could throw a sheity stick at, at the moment.
All due to accidents, traffic light problems and finally weather in Croydon this last week.
I have given up trying to stick to the regs…It seems impossible to do the job and have any kind of home lifeif you try and stick to the regs.
Surely I am entitled to a home life and improved working conditions, just as office workers are
If I have to break driving regs to get home 1.5 hours earlier, than I shall…That 1.5 hours means better quality of life and more time in a proper bed with my wife.
If it ever came to court I would fight it on human rights and work life balance regs and recommendations. The only difference between myself and an office worker, is the fact that my office is mobile. If they want to prove that my office is more taxing and more stressful, then they had better improve my pay rate retrospectively because of it. :imp:

As for four hours extra driving, they can go and fornicate with themselves :imp:

As for the public, the less of them around, the better.

axletramp:
I have never really fully understood the HGV drivers hours, how is it that we need to take only 30 mins
rest after 6 hours of other work

Technically, you ONLY need 15mins after 6hrs.

After the move was confirmed, Mr Stevenson said: "The whole logistics chain will have the opportunity to work longer hours, take a bit less rest, provided their managers think that’s the safe thing to do.

A BIT LESS RESTā– ā– ? :imp: :imp: :imp:

stuff it ! let the public suffer ( me included )

Makes my blood boil , all year round , it’s all we can do to try and stay legal , as soon as folk realise they cant get a paper and a pint of milk from the shop it’s ok to relax the friggin rules !!

Unbelieveable :unamused: :unamused:

My thoughts exactly, stick to the rules as normal …they soon do you if you go over your hours accidently, but now it suits, its ok. :unamused:

I see perfectly what your saying and understand it but the main difference between a normal office and our mobile ones is the ability to kill and cause carnage, hence the hours laws.

If I had to spend any amount of time working in an office there would be carnage and killing on a grand scale. Going Postal anyone? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yes - leave it to our managers. I was sent to the north East on Weds despite the weather forecasts and the ongoing situation. I kept ringing in and updating my (lack of) progress. Got stuck on A38 2 miles from M1 for 3 hours and then got same old story - keep going and do your best. It was like Mad Max on the M1/M18/A1
Got up to Northallerton and parked up at about 6pm then went and did 3 drops thurs morning and they fetched me back. So why bother in the first place? A waste of time diesel and money also putting the truck, load and least of all (in their eyes) the driver in danger.

I really sympathise with you blokes and all the ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  you have to put up with nowadays. I’m really glad at times like this that I’m now out of it, especially as far as good old England goes.
It goes to show just how ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  thick and stupid these people are when they come up with bs like this. I s’pose when it’s all over and the sun’s out again, they’ll be telling everyone what a good job they did, even though the majority of the ratbag lorry drivers insisted on sticking to their hours.

Good luck boys.

Er dont they think we do enough ffs if they think im doing extra to try and make them look good they can go play with themselves, i didnt want them in anyway lol.

Do they not know that we are tired already with out this extra work ā– ā– ā– ā–  the public they want to be stupid and panic buy let them i dont give a flying ā– ā– ā– ā–  im sticking to the regs

What gets me with this extra hours driving is that the Goverment and Vosa say the rules are there for safety to the public and ourselves.
Now all of a sudden safety must be out of the window, because now we CAN drive more then the legislation states and in worse driving conditions when you do need your wits about you. When the roads are clear and the nights are longer its UNSAFE to drive for longer than 10 hours twice in a working week, now the nights are darker and the roads are treacherous its SAFE to drive 10 hours a day for the next four daysā– ā– ? Already as Im typing this traffic reports are coming in of more snow falling in Scotland so are they going to extend the extra driving into next week as wellā– ā– ? And can you imagine Joe Public if a driver killed someone on his fourth day of driving 10 hours a day??
What Im not clear about regarding this relaxation in driving hours is, does the extra hour only apply to a 9 hour driving day or can we now use the extra hour and so do 11 hours in a day? and has our max working day been extended to 16 hours and the days when we have done the max working allowed in a week been extended from 13 hours to 14 hours??
Either way I WONT be doing the extra hour, not even using it to get home, the bosses will be loving this making drivers do an extra hours driving and therefore the driver looses a night out in the truck and I know so many drivers count on that night out allowance as part of their wages, so as usual Boss wins Driver looses.
I wonder if Mr Stobart hasnt already got a camera crew out with his drivers now showing how much they are saving the public from starvation by battling through and getting deliveries made to supermarkets, he could even get Jeremy Vine to do a Panorama special on ā€œhow the country was saved from the great 2010 famine by the men in the big green machinesā€
