Haulier specific rules regarding COVID

I have been told by my employer to self-isolate because I used the same wagon as someone who tested positive for COVID.

I am wondering if this is actual government mandated advice, which I can’t find any evidence of, or just the whim of our operations manager.

If anybody knows of any specialist advice that hauliers may have received regarding shared trucks that means I legally have to isolate then please let me know.
Test and trace app did not flag up with anything; which has been my argument so far, as well as the fact that I heavily sanitise any unit I jump into at the start of my shift.

Sounds OTT to me.

If you havent had significant contact with an infected person, and are showing no symptoms yourself, doesnt look like an issue to me.
And

Thanks, Franglais. I suppose its better to be safe than sorry from my employer’s point of view but then at what point does it end? Everyone who touched the same door handle as the positive driver?

I thought this may have been the case so I know what I’ll be telling them on Monday

And
“There is currently no requirement for a worker to self-isolate if they have been in proximity with someone showing coronavirus symptoms in the workplace and have been following social distancing measures. This is unless they’ve been classified as a close contact through the NHS test and trace service.”

If you weren`t in the cab at the same time, no issues there, that I can see.

For you to be considered at risk for the track and trace app, you have to be in close contact for 15 mins minimum. Since it doesn’t sound like you are, then you’re not at risk. Yes it might in theory live on surfaces, but if you’re cleaning them, then that removes the risk.

So sounds like either they are being way OTT, or they want an excuse to reduce stuff for a pre Christmas slump.

I would be asking “are you paying full wages at least the min guaranteed hours?” If not, they better get HR on the phone quick and tell them about your weird idea.

NHS does not list using the same vehicle as being one of the reasons to self isolate and non of the others seem to apply either:

My response would depend on if I was getting paid or not.

Stay at home on full pay, no problem sir.

Tell me to stay at home and also not pay me, big problems.

If we have time off we get SSP. My place isn’t alone, in the main sick pay isn’t much of a thing in our field barring some exceptions.

And therein lies an issue. To me, I can get away with SSP for a bit but others can’t so asking them to isolate is asking them to not he able to pay their bills or buy food. The support isn’t there to encourage people to isolate so therefore they won’t if they can get away with it.

You would also need to log in with the QR code to activate the Track and Trace

If you’re self isolating then you can’t go out and thus can’t log in with any QR codes. In fact doing so would presumably show a breach of your self isolation.

Thinking about the op situation, I would say ok then, arrange for me to go get a test and I’ll be off. But if its negative, you forced me off work so you’ll pay me for those days as normal even if I’m not in or give me holiday pay.

2021 is declared the year of not taking any more b/s from clueless managers.
