Haulage Apprenticeship wanted!

Hi, im new to the forum so im sorry if its in the wrong section
im 17 years old (will be 18 in January) and looking for a job in haulage or an apprenticeship in haulage.
Im Trucking mad and from the age of around 10 I was on the wagon with my uncle who owns his own business collecting fallon stock animals and butchers waste.
As soon as I left school I went to work for him but things haven’t worked out over the last few months due to nearly 70 hour weeks and no overtime pay, being put in dangerous situations I just couldn’t take it any more so left the company.
while I was working their I was driving a Van collecting fallon stock animals from farms.( It didn’t bother me as its just part of life)

Anyway… im wondering if anybody had any apprenticeships available near the Midlands area, I dont mind travelling though.

or even if there is any yard work available.

Im a keen, hard working guy who has a good sense of humour but just want to get on the ladder.

Many Thanks

Jordan

The only company I know of is Eddie stobarts at their Widnes depot training centre

Most companies these days seem to want ready trained people so they do not have to finance or use up time training newbies

They seem to expect everyone else to do the training

with so many experienced people out of work I think that situation is unlikely to change

Thats my personal view - others may have different views

Please take a ticket.

You are number 6435540534 in the que.

You are now number 6435540533.

I got fed up of waiting :stuck_out_tongue:

I got fed up of waiting too see already half way there lol

Either eddie Stobart or langdons (refrigerated) are the only ones that do apprentices,

My mate done the stobarts one the same time I started my training I passed my class 1 in September they have only passed class 2 so far so as far as I know it takes ages for them to train you up but you will get a Job out of it if you get selected.

If you are near the Yorkshire area, I suggest you keep an eye on Prestons. I’m not guaranteeing anything but I’ve heard rumors the boss is looking at new ways in bringing in new blood into the industry. Get all the information from select training companies (I’ve tried system training that stobarts use. They give little to no info and fob you off with ‘we’re not hiring at the moment and other training providers are the same’ I can assure you that isn’t the case!) And produce the information to them with a letter showing interest (do this with other hauliers too its a long shot but it does happen as I have read somewhere of a 16 year old who did the same thing and got took on as an apprentice until he was old enough to drive etc…) As for Stobarts the only ones who do this apprenticeship, not exactly. Any company can do it, the only difference is that stobarts share it with the world. Smaller hauliers don’t have that luxury and most times people end up doing it rather than talking about it (not saying thats a bad thing!)

The only reason I’m not trying to get on with prestons myself at the moment is because 1 I haven’t got my car license yet! But 2 I already have an offer somewhere else but I am giving a help in hand with this to try encourage them to put people through these apprenticeships. As I said in an article not too long back ‘if not for dads taking their kids in the lorries where are the next generation of drivers coming from’…it makes me wonder if I sparked something off with that. Who knows. But i’m not guaranteeing but it’s a very good posibility

Cheers

Any idea where abouts in Yorkshire?

I put my 17 year old son thro his forktruck license, he now works in the warehouse at the company I work for. They train people who work well when they need more drivers. He will have to wait a while tho as insurance is over 25, the boss is looking to lower it to 21 so he tells me. Mind you the owner and TM think the sun shines out of my sons arse so you never know what might happen. I paid £325 for his license which he paid back from his first few wage packets.

Try bassetts in (tittensor, i think)stoke I’m almost sure they have their own training school so would imagine they put some of their warehouse staff through their tests too. Worth a try

Bassetts do have their own school

Thanks Russell

Prestons are based in Northallerton
