Hi all, as the post says hats off to all you guys and girls that hack the trucking way of life, I lasted 9 days and have jacked! 15 hr days, 9 hr turn arounds, driving like a zombie, walking like a zombie, I’m afraid it’s not for me! I jacked on Wednesday and two days later I’m still trying to catch up on my sleep!!
Sounds tuff mate. What class driver are you?
Only 15hrs? Some of us worked 24h straight

Or 25 if it’s a leap year.

I took a weekly rest period that started on a Sunday and finished the previous Friday.

That’s the easy bit, doing it bent and making it look straight is (was) the art!
Fair play to you, at least you’re honest and didn’t keep doing something you didn’t like.
You do know that you’ll become part of RDC folklore now though, don’t you?
I can hear them now “yeah, that bloke was put with me and I worked him so hard he jacked…”

And in those 9 days he will have done all the damage to trailers and units for the previous 3 months
and for the next 3 according to the other drivers.
I find the long hours ok, but my wife is an Olympic/Professional grade nagger so I feel a responsibility to reduce her access to practice…

Funny, she never complains to me about you being at work so much of the time.

It can get better. I´ve just been talking to my agency about coming off supermarket work because there´s not enough hours in it! But of course it´s difficult finding the right job as a newbie, you have to take what there is. If you´re on agency maybe consider seeing if you could do 4 on 3 off in order to make sure you´re getting enough rest. Like every job, it gets easier.
