Has the job changed too much for you ?, feel it's time to ge

Digicard, dcpc, reems of “infringements” to have to sign to admit how much of a naughty boy you’ve been this month, snotty letters from the management telling YOU off because some eastern european “driver” somewhere has c****d up again, loss of job satisfaction, whatever your reason might be for thinking of changing, I’ve recently come off trucks after 26 years and now work for the nhs as a courier driver in the ambulance service, while I was driving between depots unit only one day about a year ago some guy in an office rang me in the cab to tell me that I was doing 45 on a de regulated trunk road instead of 40, so when I got in to the depot I rang the Missus and told her that she was going to be seeing a bit more of me in future because that was it for me on the trucks, time to call it a day.
over the next few months I looked out for a good job driving van’s, not easy you might think, so did I,but I saw this job advertised and tried for it, I’ve been with them 7 months now and it’s a great job, none of the agro you have to put up working in the transport industry, and all the perks like the pension, lots of leave etc,so if you’re interested check out your ambulance service jobs websites and look out for health courier service jobs, you’ll have a great chance of getting it because of your superior driving skills, experience in the transport industry i.e you know your way about etc, and having been a truck driver you will probably have an above average work ethic. Good luck.

thanx for that sugestion.
I think there will be a few who look into it
Thanx again :exclamation:

Nice little side shuffle there Promis, sounds a good number semi retirement sort of thing, enjoy it and the time at home.

I don’t blame you in the least, and would have been glad to find something like that meself if i hadn’t slipped in where i am now, which has been like turning the clock back 30 years in company attitude and mutual openness and respect between employees/management/admin on the whole.

I find the thing thats missing with drivers, luckily not where i am now, is the competence camaraderie respect and courtesy that we once had towards each other, some of 'em would walk over your body removing your wallet and phone without breaking step as they passed by if you dropped dead in front of them.

It certainly isn’t the job it once was, but whilst where i am stays like it is i can easily manage this until me time’s up, should it ever go contract with one of the hopeless logistics companies (that can’t waste their customers money quickly enough) i too will proably end up calling it a day, i could not work for dishonourable useless ignorant almost unemplyable logistics providers admin amateurs again, with their unlimited box ticking and bull shine to cover their ignorance.

Good tip, thanks.
Maybe the ambulance service and similar will find old school lorry drivers are worth recruiting and we can leave the trucking game to the new breed, see how far that gets 'em when things need some nous.

if you’re interested check out your ambulance service jobs .

This has been covered recently by some other post, can’t remember who did it though - was it you?

Good luck by the way and well done for seeing the light

Several of us are considering jacking due to new way of thinking that work is more important than a home life. This includes a driver who’s been with us for 33 years.

Yeah it was, viewtopic.php?f=2&t=80799

I think he might be on some kind of commission, maybe a free organ or a couple of pints of blood, for everyone he recruits.

lol thanks Neil. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve only been “driving” for about four years now and even I can look back at better times :frowning: it’s all a bit “me, myself and I” nowadays and the attitude of our “superiors” can be quite appalling at times.

From my point of view, I love driving the truck but just lately hate everything that goes with it! I’m looking to leave my current job and try other class 1 jobs (though I don’t really expect to see a vast improvement) I’m also thinking long and hard about retraining for some other career - I just can’t think what

Must admit that after nigh on 30 years of driving lorries i am getting a bit “hacked off” and have been considering a career change.
Cant quite see meself driving the window lickers about just yet though.
