Has it suddenly got busier out there?

Either I have suddenly turned into Mister Popular (unlikely) or something is happening out there. In the last two days, I have been contacted by three separate agencies all prospecting me to do work for them? :open_mouth:

Now do bear in mind I don’t do shop (or home) deliveries which is where you expect the ‘boom’ to be at this time of the year, it does make you wonder why I have suddenly become potentially desirable to other agencies?

Was wondering if anyone else has suddenly found a sudden interest from agencies or has detected a sudden surge in work for no particular reason? Can’t be holiday cover at this time of the year, unless Benidorm or Butlins are doing special offers for company drivers… :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting the suckers list ready for Christmas.

Half term.

Halloween “family break” stuff. Lots of work until the end of next week, by which point Bonfire night will have been and gone as well.
Because these are “evening” events - it will be the full timers taking time off work to attend their families. Those will be the shifts available in abundance then - anything that would normally involve working across the early evening.

Leaves on the line.

I reckon that they’ve heard through the grapevine that you have not only a mobile phone but a sleeping bag too!

Sleeping bag?.. Bugger that… I’d rather stick wasps up my arse than ever sleep in a truck again. Just need a more diplomatic way to add that to my CV I guess…

I shall be far too busy at Christmas with watching festive films, eating mince pies and other essential stuff to even contemplate turning a wheel… how tedious would that be?? :open_mouth:

I’ll drink to that, chap. My daughter will be 1 just after Christmas, my son nearly 5 ,I have 10 days off at least over Christmas and there’s a brewery within walking distance of my gaff producing real ale. :sunglasses:

Bound to start getting busy soon, the amount of stuff going through the warehouse is definitely picking up and the Aberdeen runs will be be double manned shortly, ■■■■ knows where the drivers will come from

I’m on a civilised start next week 14:30 rather than 02:30

+1

If a firm’s financial year end is December 31st, that can often lead to everything being busier.

I got a letter off best connection the other week I done a couple of days work for them about 10 years ago. Same letter every year since.

No one ever seems to say BOSH ÂŁ20ph - come and get it lads!

It’s all “upto” which means minimum near minimum wage except on Christmas day when the headline rate applies (never worked Christmas day, despite being prepared to do so for enough money!)
I did work millenium eve though for ÂŁ350 for a job and knock 6 hour job. :grimacing: :stuck_out_tongue:

Can anyone confirm the rumour that ASDA are paying across Christmas ÂŁ18ph without having to qualify for parity pay like one does at Royal Mail?

If you want the parity pay at RM - you have to be in there by the end of september solid so that it kicks in at Christmas time.
There’s no point starting at the end of november, getting stood down in January, all for £10ph is there? - I won’t be making that mistake again myself. :frowning:

I think Royal Fail do an aptitude test where if you pass, you’ve failed. Let me explain…
I’ve got a day off today and the postman has just been, pushing his pram with the letters in. We had about half a dozen bits of post, all junk ranging from a VIP used car event (apparently if I want a new or used car next Saturday I have to have a pass to buy one  ) to the fact that the opticians have missed my Mrs (didn’t know they had a contract out on her), plus the usual letterbox padding from Virgin Media. Now, this postie must be either stupid or from an agency as he spent about two minutes forcing all the mail through the letterbox at once when it would’ve been quicker to push each bit through separately. I reckon agency guy trying to get an extra few hours in.
