Hi, I’ve a Pickfords and Harold Woods thread down on page three

Cheers - Sniffy

Never drove for them, as a youngster I had many a day out with some drivers during the school holidays, I was born down Wormald Street
Heckmond WIKE.
Harold Woods first depot was a few miles away in Cleckheaton, they move to Wormald Street when they out grew the small Cleck. depot.

My dad worked there for a couple of years in the early `70s

My dad - Stan Rennison drove for Harold Woods in the 60’s & 70’s on the DCL contract out of Saltend, I used to go with him in school holidays, remember him driving an AEC Mammoth Major or was it a Mandator? 8 legger with a Stainless or Aluminium banana tank, He then moved on to Ancliff out of Urmston eventually finishing with John Formans (P&O) out of Hull, he sadly passed away 1992. I eventually followed him into transport, starting as a “plater” with Tolemans, now 18 months to retirement I’m an Ops Manager & DGSA running a small fleet of LPG tankers- he would have loved to know I am in the tanker business too!

I did a bit out of Saltend in the early 70s and I think Harold Woods were running both MK5 Mandators and Tilt cab Mandators. I may even have met him as well as Smith and Robinsons’,John Foremans’ and LPG drivers.
