Harmony in Europe,yeah right

How can one country fine you thousands and the next a pittance, and wont even write on the back of the tacho,so the offence cant have been that bad, each country imposes its own agenda, which must be illegal,as we are all in one so called community.
VOSA fixed penalties, are a bargain, compared to say the Basque area, for any offence, you are talking thousands of euros, the papers taken away,by law, they can not take away your truck keys.

Are you just asking about tacho offences Toby, or is your question more general?

The tacho Regs simply state what is and isn’t allowed, but it prescribes no penalties.
Therefore, each offence is dealt with by the legal system in whichever country the offence is detected.

ADR works in exactly the same way. No penalties are prescribed in ADR either, so any offences are dealt with under the relevant national dangerous goods laws applicable in the country where an ADR offence is detected.

Diesel dave,i meant any offences, that can change in price for each area.I saw a Portuguese get fined thosands for the rear reflectors on his trailer, being not orange or bright enough.

Because each country is a sovereign state, which can have its own view on how important an offence is and can set its own fines accordingly.
Do you want the EU bureaucracy to start dictating what punishments our courts hand down for each and every crime ? Because giving them a foothold by asking them to dictate the level of fines for traffic offences will be enough to get them thinking along those lines.
Don’t forget the ‘straight banana’ fiasco !

that’s why i don’t mind getting pulled as much as i do in the UK.
if i have any minor discrepancies, then i would look forward to getting pulled here.
they will do a printout, then stamp, and sign it. at least vosa know that minor mistakes are made by everyone. but in spain it’s about 350 euro for being a few minutes over 4.5 hours driving. :unamused:
