Hard shoulder safety

This is why lane one gets closed for tyre fitter’s safety. A very sad incident, that at the time was being viewed by control room staff and witnessed by a VOSA patrol.

When I was on recovery, I’d drag car onto back and put 1 or 2 NEARSIDE straps over the wheels, then get off the motorway asap, then do the other straps. The winch stayed conected but eased off 1 or 2 inches to reduce strain on the cable, but it’d stop the car falling off should both straps on nearside fail

The full story says that he was drifting across all the lanes and beeing beeped at. So i guess he could of potentially hit anyone in any lane.

stand by for another slagging in the press with the comment in court"its just one of those things"!!! what was the guy thinking of giving an answer like that, don’t think that will help reducing the time he is going to spend inside

I was on the M6 travelling south one day last week when I got a puncture in my van. At the time the hard shoulder was open to ease congestion so I continued until I found a refuge bay.

Once parked I noticed that almost instantly traffic stopped using the hard shoulder, I was`nt sure if this was a coincidence or it was because a camera had seen me as probably five trucks and cars still used it in the hour I was there

Changing tyres on a motorway is a job I would`nt want to be doing.

Sounds like a case of sleep apnea. I had that and you don’t remember things, you can literally fall aslep walking around, I know I did, let alone when driving. I now have a CPAP machine and I’m totally cured. If people tell you that your snoring is terrible, go and get it checked out lads because this could happen to you otherwise.

As an added note, you can use the CPAP even if you’re a tramper, the sleep unit will give you a 12v DC lead as well as a mains lead to use, just ask them.
