I was going down the M1 Friday afternoon and on the opposite carriageway I noticed an artic broken down, the driver was out the vehicle and about 30 yards infront behind the barrier obviously waiting for rescue/recovery. Normally if I’m not parked at the side of a big drop/bridge support I usually sit in the passenger seat and wait for mechanical assisstance. My question to you guys is do you get out when you breakdown or wait in the cab?
Having been to an accident as a fireman where a truck was broken down on the hard shoulder, when a coach hit the cab, killed the recovery and truck driver, and seriously injured the coach driver and several passengers, YES I do get out and get as far away as I can. You would think you are safe in the pasenger seat, but, if an artic was to jack nknife, hit the central reservation, and bounce off, it would demolish your cab and you too.
I always get out.even if it was cold wet and dark.
i lost two very good freinds ln that accident at dishforth many years ago.
a driver ran into the back of them, they had only stopped to help an accident that had already happened.
