Hanson st.george quarry

does anyone know if st.george quarry abergele is still open.read in the daily post it was closeing at the end of august

It was certainly open until last week, we were delivering there

Its still open but on a bit of a knife edge apparently. I started on my own out of there but had to move on about 2yrs ago cos’ it was so dead. It has got significantly worse since then.

I’m told they’ve only had a handful of delivered loads every week. :frowning: Hansons seem to be set on juggling staff between Abergele, Aberduna and Trimm Rock to keep them ticking over rather than shutting any (although I’m told Aberduna and Trimm haven’t got much life left in em’ anyway :unamused: .)

when tilcon/tarmac had both the quarry & tar plant it was ok there.when hanson bought the quarry and tarmac kept the plant it was never gonna work
bit like burley hill

hansons are closing a few quarrys middleton hall near the belfry, erith in cambridgeshire rumours of closing billing i have also heard gelligare is closeing

Be a shame to see it go to the wall.I always hate it when quarries close, especially those with a tar plant.

There have been a few round here that have gone ■■■■ up in the last ten years.Eldon Hill,Waterswallows,Hillhead to name but a few.

Times was that Tarmac had a couple of tar plants/quarries operating in this area, but now if you needed coated from them, you’d have to send out to Stoney Middleton (Darlton),Parwich (Ballidon) or Cauldon Low.

There was a tar plant in Tunstead, but it was last used in the early 70s and a few years back, they pulled it down after years of being mothballed.

I don’t remember that far back Mudflap but when I started off about 5yrs ago both were busy but since the major housebuilding in Rhyl & Prestatyn stopped they have both gawn dead. :frowning:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the tar plant isn’t long for this world… :frowning:

You still on the tippers then Mudflap?

Tipped me last load in October 2004 Hammer

you must started there just after i threw the towel in

Like ships in the night lol!

UPDATE: Called in Trimm Rock yesterday and they told me St.George is gonna be mothballed at the end of November.

I took my first load EVER as a truck driver out of there (couldn’t have been wetter behind the ears! :unamused: ) and my first as an O/D. Sad day :frowning: .

However, they have a licence for 20 years+, so it will be back someday.

I like driving with the window open, although I have no hair it sure is nice to have the wind whistle across my scalp!

As for moaning, its the first thing we were taught in tipper school! :unamused:
