Hanson have written to the hired in hauliers around here telling them that they have to have the same basic kit as the franchise trucks.Thats ok but 1 thing that a friend of mine is having trouble getting is £10 million public liability insurance. Seems the companies with a fleet policy and the ODs that have a contract can get it but my friend with 1 truck can only get £5 million. Luckily hes 60 plus and doesnt need to earn a fortune but he likes to do a bit
that’s easy to rectify this situation…
tell them to shove it where the sun don’t shine

I’ll just do what I always do when Hansons write to me…ignore it.
I take it that by ‘basic kit’, it means auto sheet, tailboard etc?
I think you can get away with a manual pull over sheet and same for the tailboard. They want the chevrons and blinky lights on the back,I also have an old W reg 5w the guys 74 years old and mainly does our own work but we order our own material through the orders system so it needs the truck to have a Hanson hauliers code to pick it up.
My friend rang today and said 1 of the big brokers in the construction industry has agreed to put the extra cover on for him so hes ok.
Hows things your end Hammer? We seem to be up and down at Hanson,as soon as we get a big day they ship trucks in at great expense to knock the work about. Tarmacs down here seem to be going for broke, they are cutting the coated job to get the work and I am not talking by 50p per tonne either. Interesting times eh

Same, up and down. I hardly do anything for Hansons these days. They keep flitting between 3 local quarries that are being worked out and finished, a lot of their regulars have packed up. Tarmac have quite a lot of work, they need it with 35-odd contract 8-leggers to feed every day.
I like the job but it doesn’t pay. I don’t expect to be here in a years time.
