For the time being i will stay with driving only doing day work but my over all goal is to get into either a transport office of freight office but i will see what responses i get back from my applications
To be honest the office role i dont get alot of luck with as for some reason people dont want ex drivers working in there office but im sure i will find a possition soon.

is it me or don,t they make em like they used to,no offence elder but if youv,e only done 2 years i,d hate to think what you,l be like in 10 or 20 years.I,ve been driving 20 years first 10 loved it, the rest just do it for the money,its easy always ern,t good money(never worked for [zb] money)now i ply me trade in spain same job as in the uk but away all week.Needs must but i could not do much else, can,t work inside can,t have someone looking over me all the time,set hours no.Its in your blood…not avin a go tho…

I’m glad your not having a go because all I said is that I can see where he’s coming from, that doesn’t mean I’m only doing it for the money or it isn’t in my blood, I was just sympathising with the chap.

As for being a know it all, I do know is that this post isn’t about me or what I’ve done in the past so leave your pathetic little snipes about me out of it. Maybe you’re the sort who likes to look clever by putting less experience people down, fine by me, I don’t care what you think, it wont stop me posting my thoughts and opinions, and atleast I don’t go around being insulting and acting the big man on an internet message board of all places, but if thats your thing, carry on.

I’m still at a loss as to why I’m being started on in the first place, let alone being called a ‘know it all’ just because I have the cheek to have an opinion having only done the job a mere two years, although I really don’t know what I’ve said that was so controversial to upset people in the first place. I didn’t realise only people with X number of years are allowed to have their say around here, if thats the case then it should be made clear from the beginning. As for being ‘Smiffy’ elsewhere, most definetely not. I’ve never been a member of another truck forum.

for my opinion on the mater of oldies to new people.
in some respects people who did the far east on a skateboard or whatever years ago have no experience in what it’s like driving on the continent in todays era. likewise younger people or people new into the international driving have no idea what it was like years ago.
on each side of the story people can learn from each other, i have told or helped drivers who have been doing the job for years and they have helped me also.
the oldies should learn from the new kids on the block, look at the reasons for the problems of recruiting new blood into the industry and you will eventualy find its because the people in the industry are stuck in there ways and cannot accept new ideas. cocky new drivers soon learn there lesson.
as for the idea that most drivers have of european work being the pinacle of truck driving its far from it, the bad points are at times more than the good points.
at the moment i am driving for an agency and its an eye opener! i am in a big electrical store and its run by union guys talk about retirement and knwing what side you bread is buttered. but i am still looking into an office based role and have got some positive responses from freight account management positions so fingers crossed ill land a gud un

FFS this is like a witch hunt, why not just go the whole way and put me on a ducking stool! All I did was say that I understood where spacemonkeypg was coming from and it leads to be getting petty insults from jessicasdad, being accused of being 2 different people, called a ‘know it all’ who really knows nothing, and why? I can only assume that people here dont like a 23 year old doing a job they consider elitist and beyond the abilities of anyone who hasn’t done 50 trips to Istanbul via Yugoslavia during the civil war!
For the record, I’m not a know it all, if I was I would not have come on here and publically asked questions and advice. At the company I work for I do just a good job as any other driver and I learn from them and believe it or not, they even learn from me as I do Germany all the time and they don’t, so despite having only two years experience, I do have things worth saying and unlike some people on here it seems I don’t go about it in a way that picks on and insults other people.
Anyway I’ve said all I’m going to say, this is more like a primary school playground than a so called professional drivers forum, bullying and name calling isn’t big and hard, its just boring and the last thing I want to be involved with after been away all week.
