Heard about a guy who did a lot of hanging…pierrepoint was his name …knew the trade inside out…
…i did quite a bit of hanging stuff in the 70s/80
s…just treat it right …and all will be fine …take care on the roundabouts…and awkward cambers…and you dont have to throw it about…like all dodgy loads …treat it with respek…except when going in a straight line…if its lamb its not so much to handle as beef…
like any load … judge it right and take it steady.
i have on very good authority that its not a myth why do you think most irsh fridges run on micheliens they have thicker sidewalls
Swedish trucks used to run Europe with two sets of documents. One for the steel & one for the load on top.
Thanks for the advice guys…the job is working for nr evans…france and italy… so rungis will be on the cards im sure…(zb) and ive done so well at avoiding the place…no idea what evans are like to work for out of bedford, but cant be any worse than ptm international!!!
,but cant be any worse than ptm international!!!
Ah, so you too worked for Peter Mansky. You have my sympathies you really do. I know only to well what he is like to work for!!!
ha, sure did buzzardboy…for about 3and a half months…nice trucks good work…well most of the time…double shifts etc…i dont mind doing my bit…but if you work for mr mansky you will do your bit and a bit more…i had no problem with pete…i dont like the idea of being told i have to go in to sainsburys after shipping back from where ever and do a 10 hour traction shift…dont think so!!!..nice trucks…good work…crap money…how much sleep do u want??
I know how you feel mate, did 18 Months for Pete. Couldnt handle getting paid by cheque, and as you say wanted you to go into Sainsbury’s and do a full shift after a week away wherever.
As for the nice trucks bit, when i was there there were 8 decent trucks, and some olds toot. He sold them though not long after i left. ANd he used to have some good work, but again he started doing a lot for Heritage, SDM,Ocean, Translact to name a few. Best work he had was Uniex doing Swiss every week.
Dont get me wrong, we had a blast on there, and it was a good craic, but after a while it gets to you and you need a break to catch up on your sleep!!!
sounds like another job too give a miss too.
He still has some work from ocean and sdm down to vallet or lisioux which is easy work…i had a just over a week on translact which i enjoyed…but i think he’s blown it with them…i was supposed to be in llantrisant for 20.30 the other week but got sent in to sainsburys…so the tank didnt get there till 10am the next day (i was the first away from vliss)…which didnt go down to well…As for swiss,i only transited which was enough for me…
i had a just over a week on translact which i enjoyed.
(Ex-Taymix/Translact driver here… )
You have my sympathies Lucy!!
I was under 25 with one week’s experience at Class 1 (a year at Class 2) and a near fatal jacknife under my belt. I was desperate.
To be fair, I learnt one hell of a lot there, and apparently they’ve cleaned their act up big time since those days…but that’s a whole other story for a whole less public place…
