Taking a fridge full of hanging meat up to Prestwick on Monday and was just wondering whether the A75 and A76 was a viable route bearing in mind that I’ll be taking it steady or carry on to Hamilton A725 then down the M77/A77.
You’ve got the major roadworks to contend with on the M74 near J5. If you hit it at rush hour, northbound delays can be anything up to an hour!!! Plus there are a few roundabouts in EK which won’t be good for a hanging load. I would take it slow and steady up the A76.
Or even carry on up the M74 till J8 and take the A71 for Kilmarnock.

With an extra 10 tonne of steel plate on the floor?
similar question been asked here before. like the man said, avoid raith interchange at rush hour, otherwise M74, then M77 takes you right there. easy straight road and no longer time wise.
provided your not approaching Glasgow AM or PM rush hour.
if your 100% legal, then the 75 will be a comfortable 2 hours to stranraer, then a comfortable 1 hr 20 to wherever it is in Prestwick…if your not 100% legal, then it wont be so comfortable…if you’ve no a.m cb then do not speed at all or stay off the road as all you will get is terrorised by the Donegal mafia for holding the boat traffic up…for me,id m/way all the way into Glasgow, over the ■■■■■ bridge, and then m/way down to prestwick airport/monkton lodge turn off…especially with a load of hanging on.dont go 75,dont go cross country from Hamilton and don’t be tempted to take the 71 cross country either…take the lazy option and keep your shiny side up,

wherever it is in Prestwick…
I would imagine with a load of hanging’ he’s off to Halls Foods in Glenburn Rd. The old Belcher’s sausage place.
Thanks everyone. I’ll carry on up the M74 and then back down the 77. I’ve done it that way before but have never used those"cross country" roads before so was unaware of what they were like.
Cheers
I’ve been across country from Castle Douglas to Ayr before without any issue but it was ages ago. I remember going up the A76 and having a night mare but can’t remember where. I seem to recall a few small towns with tight bridges and narrow streets but the same wasn’t true of the A719.
76 is fine if you’re sensible and some of the worst bits have been improved or bypassed.
exit m74 at larkhall take A71 toward Kilmarnock you then can go onto M77 to Prestwick best route for traffic and load will save you all roadworks

No need to go through Glasgow and over the Kingston bridge anymore, the M74 (extension) takes you straight onto the M77. But aye, avoid like the plague M74 J4 and the ■■■■■■■■■■■ that is the M74/M77/M8 merge anywhere near rush hour(s).
+1 on Avoiding A75 if you’re planning on taking it easy

Then you can take them bends at a proper limiter speed.

You must be joking Stranraer to get to Prestwick.
Ben
Another option is the Douglas road, A70, through Scumnock and head up the 76 if you don’t fit under the Coalhall bridge (13’9 from memory). Its usually dead.
Where are you going? If its Belchers go in past the airport don’t go up to the Whitletts Roundabout and in, making life hard going that way.
A.
Usual pish…spouted by allsorts. theres only one way, M74, M77, your there.
like that one said, stranraer ?, the wholw way at 40, then the low bridge surprises on the latest one.
My ex missus has some hanging hams in her plus size ■■■■■■■.
Like a pair of beef curtains. Yuk.
