The shop at Lymm truckstop makes numberplates if your boss will foot the bill for it.
Tis not legal without a V5
But they will sell him the self adhesive yellow stuff and sticky backed characters!
It was all supposed to be to stop scumbags nicking petrol from filling stations, now they just nick another set of plates and then go and nick the petrol, innit

A bit do-gooderish for you Malc.
It’ll be usual craic of creating them for “show use”. Let’s be honest, how many trailer reg plates have got the name of the dealer or BS kite mark on them? So long as it’s in the right colour, font and spacing it’s highly unlikely to attract any attention (although maybe I shouldn’t be saying that on here with this site having VOSA scum as members , might give them ideas for their FPN list).

I had it with bloody Halfords, some prepubescent manager who wouldn’t make me a spare number plate, even though I had the car and a bike trailer with a motorbike outside. I wanted a plate for the trailer and he went to great pains to tell me how illegal it was

So I made a cardboard one
Strangely enough I had the same shizzle happen to me last year with Halfords as well. In the end I went to my friendly Asian garage and told them the craic. 5 mins later I had the number plate in my hand. Sorted.
My spare is a plate from an old truck (long gone) and use the rear of it with the numbers/letters wrote in marker pen. (ok its white and not yellow but its better than cardboard).

Merc0447’s top tip unscrew your back unit plate and use it on the trailer
Obviously it wont fit in the brackets but use your noggin to get it secure.
Cool! Thanks, will do that just now.
Unless the law’s changed or he’s very lucky I think he’d still get done for not displaying the rear number plate on the unit so sorry, he’s as bad burned as scalded. My husband was in exactly the same situation and got a fine.

I trust this clarifies matters.
You need a plate at the front of the vehicle and the rear of the vehicle, no law says you must have one somewhere in the middle of the vehicle. A unit pulling a trailer is one vehicle so front and back it is.
If you husband told you he got a fine I think he must have spent the money on something else and needed a story to tell you to cover the shortfall.

If you took the plate off the unit and put it on the trailer, you would be complying with the law, however under construction and use regulations you would be breaking the law and end up with a £30 fine for not having the plate on the back of the unit. basically, if its meant to be there and its not, you can get done.
