Half Gears

Hi, in my class 1 test how much do you have to use the half gears (if at all)?

Thanks

As appropriate. Every chance you can get round a test without using them.

But it begs the question, why learn on a manual?

Thanks for your reply pete, we only have manual trucks in the fleet at work so it has to be geared! Believe I’d much rather be doing it in an auto but doing it like I am works out cheap & also I’m ready to drive the trucks we have!

Roger

To be honest, on your test I don’t think there is a need to split the gears. You’re not carrying the weight for it to be beneficial.

Probably correct, unless the truck is well worn with low bhp. It will be carrying 8 tonnes - which aint a lot.

OP, make sure that the vehicle is compliant for test or you’ll be turned away.

I assume you’d need to present a certificate guaranteeing the weight of the truck before and after being loaded with its 8T?

Not sure what the mod 4 requirements are for the truck (assuming going down that CPC route) but no doubt theres certain things which need to apply.

It needs to be loaded with 8 IBC’s full of water. Same for Mod 4. (5 tonne if CAT C, empty if C1).
