Had to laugh, before I cry

Spoke with the local job centre today just out of interest to see how many full time jobs are about ATM. I live in Sleaford and am sick and tired of agency work.

Sleaford JC checked, Boston, Lincoln, Newark and Grantham as well as Sleaford area for me, they came up with 5 jobs, two of which needed extra licences like Hiab etc.

Stunning eh.

Got an interview tomorrow the other side of Boston, wrangle, not expecting the pay to be enough to cover my travel costs but I have to at least check it out, seriously give my left testicle for a decent full time job, rare as hens teeth these days.

Was accepted by Stobbies for a job but until a job presents itself that’s coming to nothing for the time being, also submitted an application to Moy Park at Anwick, not heard back from them yet tho…

Will chase up the other two jobs tomorrow as well, fingers crossed.

dunno if you have any mechanical experance, but i belive wakefield auto’s in boston are looking for a class 1/2 driver, with mechanical experance, i was turned down because i only have 3.5ton licence…

The folk at Wakefields Auto’s are proper nice people to deal with, I would think they’re good to work for.

I have some mechanical experience but nothing official, done all my own servicing myself for years, brakes, suspension, all that kind of stuff, that anywhere close to what they need ■■

Thanks for that, I really do appreciate any leads people give

Give Lee or Julie a ring, or pop in and see them.

Recovery is a fantastic job if you’ve got the right mindset. You’ll regulary get challenging situations, where you’ve got to use your initiative and resourcefulness to get the job done. You’ll meet a wide spectrum of folk from all walks of life, most pleasent and pleased to see you, some really difficult. You’ll have to manage stressful situations and diffuse some awkward or difficult ones. Some days you’ll work right around the clock to get the job done, especially when doing roll-overs on heavies. But when you work as a close team, the crack is great.

These days it’s the customer interaction that’s key - you need to be able to read people and handle them accordingly. You’ll deal with aggressive and difficult travellers who’ve just had their van taken off them by the police, then half an hour later you’ll be dealing with a very emotional lady who has just been involved in an RTA. You can’t plan anything, the job changes every 5 minutes.
But one thing is guaranteed, you’ll never get two days the same.

pop it give them a call, when i spoke to them i can only echo what cieranc has just said.

Last time I was down that way, I had a tractor unit on the hook.
I pulled in their yard, and asked Graham where they wanted it unloading, 'cos it didn’t drive.

He answered “Ahh we’ll sort that out in a bit. Tea or coffee ■■”.

Nuff said

that sentance does say a lot, and all their kit look’s top aswell…

Ace thanks guys, will call them first thing, Never considered recovery before, actually some interest now i’m thinking about it

Thanks again

Yer I think Laws was one of the other 3 I got from the Job Centre call today, container work iirc ■■ was going to chase that one in the morning as well actually, but thanks anyways. (was this the yard that had the recent nasty event btw ■■ )

I thought Branston finished their recruitment drive ■■ I applied last time and got a thanks but no thanks, clean licence and 13yrs experience clearly not good enough or something ■■ lol :unamused:

regards branstons lol thought you would have no problem,l laws not entirely sure what you mean event? i hadnt heard of anything.

There was a poor fella killed in a yard or something ■■ One of the HGV op’s out that way I seem to recall reading in the Sleaford Target ?

I know Branstons had someone leave last week, so now would be a good time to go and see them!
And I got that info from the guy who runs the trucks in there…I was in there twice with a bulker.
They all seem like decent lads and happy enough.

Nights I know at Branston is a doddle IF you can stand being in a Tossco waiting room for hours on end

Good day today.

Starting at Kimes on Sunday morning, seem like a really nice decent bunch.

Went into Wakefields Recovery and filled in an application, again, another seemingly nice bunch, called Branston and they are getting back to me, recruitment guy is I’ll atm,a job is available tho.

So thanks guys, much appreciated.

Good luck.

Also, Browns at Donington are recruiting, they have a big banner up atm. Ive just started at Turners next door to them and heard they pay a bit better!
I also heard Kimes were ■■■■■■■■ to work for but let us know how you find them!

regards

Thanks mate, I heard the same about Browns tho tbh, I think you just have to ■■■■ it and see if your face fits or not, try and keep my head down and concentrate on doing a good job and generally I don’t get any hassle wherever I work. Be interested to hear how you get on as well actually mate.

GL

(thanks Lorryist  )

The pay at browns is OK…But they are on the phone all the time, or they insist that you call them.
The workforce is mainly Eastern Europeans and the trucks are treated like scum, as are the trailers and the drivers! I lasted 3 weekends, I need to work with happy people, with whom I can communicate with and I also need to be left alone to get on with the job, not treated like a 3 year old :unamused:

Some may be able to put up with it, but not me.
