Had my CE assessment today which went very well! Had a brief explanation of what to expect before moving on to driving. Whilst still in the yard I was asked to reverse keeping it in a straight line, which I did. From there I was asked to pull it forward and to the left so I was at an angle , then reverse back along the same angle so I ended up straight, which I did, and then the instructor took over and we went out onto the road.
He did a quick circuit on the road negotiating a few sweeping bends and tight turns and then I took over and did the same. The first few minutes I felt like I’d forgot how to drive but I soon settled down and did a nice drive. Upon re-entering the yard (the reverse bay was to my right). The instructor got out and asked if I could try and get the vehicle into the reversing area, “see how you get on”, he said. So I pulled it forward and went to the right, across the front of the bay, and pulled it forward as straight as I could in the space available. Then reversed it into the bay
OK so it wasn’t a proper reversing exercise and the trailer did start to run away with itself (which I managed to correct), but I did manage to get it into the bay with the rear of the trailer in specified area. It wasn’t completely straight but it was definitely in and with no shunts
Really really chuffed with myself, was beaming from ear to ear when I left. I felt quite comfortable with it all too which I was pleased about. I’m booked in for 3 days (12 hours, test on the 3rd day) at the beginning of March. I just hope its enough time to get everything in. To hear those dreaded “haven’t passed” words again would be devastating.
Fingers crossed
